I was raised hunting with 165 grn hornady btsp's out of my old 30-06. I never knew anything else. I tagged 8 elk and over 10 deer with them. They never let me down, not once. But a few years back i decided to try out the 165 SST's WOW, I've killed two bulls and a buck with the sst's and they are...
This is the only 30 cal slug i reload. I use it with my kids .308 and my 30- 06. Ive killed deer and elk with these slugs and they preform flawlessly. VERY ACCURATE!!!!!!!!
I haved hunted 25 years in Washington, in every corner of the state. There is plenty of opportunities for deer and elk but if you hunt modern firearm you will have to wade through the ocean of orange vests in the woods. The best hunts for me are the muzzleloader hunts. You have approximately...
In Washington state to drive on state dnr land or park at any recreational site you have to buy a annual $30 discover pass. Its free to recreate on national forest lands.
Thanks for the good luck. Yeah taking kids hunting brings entirely new aspects to hunting. It takes alot of patience but its incredibly rewarding at the same time. And if i left them out of this hunt i dont think they'd forgive me lol.
Hunting out of state ( from Wa.) Has been a huge dream of mine for many years. Ive been hunting elk for 22 years and have never shot a bull bigger than a spike. For those that arnt familair with Wa. A large portion of the state is spike only for elk. And yes anyone can hunt the coast for 3pt or...
I'm a reloader as well and one of my daughters is hunting elk this fall with her .308. I loaded her up with 165 grn hornady sst. I've killed two elk with those slugs from my 30-06 and the damage is unreal. Her rifle does great with the load I worked up for her. I set her up with 35 gains of...
We have the same problem out here with land access. We do a lot of walking, when running our dogs. The private timber companies near me still let us hunt for free but everything is locked up tight. So is the state land, but that's ok. It just keeps us in shape lol.
I started my daughters out With a 50 cal muzzleloader. They are very accurate and can shoot out to 200 yards no problem. It really teaches them the value of shot placement. The best part was I started them out with half powder loads that didn't kick at all. I gradually upped the charge without...
The only way I could think of getting a tent that size 3 miles from a trail head without horses would be using a game cart. But game cart are a pain in the but on side hills. And if I'm not mistaken if your going into a wilderness area there are no wheeled devices allowed.
I once planned a...
