I've believe that for deer for sure! But.. not why I'm considering the Gros Ventre for him.
As far as elk I don't know that I agree after living near Cody. Some pretty solid elk living deep in the wilderness.
Starting the plan for a deer hunt with my son who is a NR. Last year was my first year as a WY res and I had a type 9 elk tag so I didn't get to hunt the general deer season down south. Ended up hunting the general up here around Cody. He has enough NR points to draw G or H so I'm trying to...
Not sure what in the area means, but the units directly bordering the park both down there and up here are a different animal compared to just in grizz country. All the park bordering units are the wildest places in the lower 48. Yes, you can hunt the fringes and probbaly get away without horses...
JFYI there is a reason it has such an early rifle opener. It's serious WY wilderness with as many Grizz and you can handle. As said you have to be hunting with a resident guide in there and you'll need horses unless you just hunt the fringes. I would be thinking more about if you're up for the...
$185 is still better than a plane ticket, car, hotel to ensure you could get in line at some random grocery store early enough to get a tag in the 1st 15 mins before they are gone. Or take a day off work to sit in some jacked up online queue for 6 hrs only to find out the tags sold before you...
I hunted 141 last year. It's a very different hunt than the other two. I did shoot a 170ish deer, but saw very few deer as the migration had not really started. He was as high as I could hunt. If you're willing to hunt late and get some luck with the weather it can be good. Now as a WY resident...
My son drew a NR AZ Unit 1 archery tag as a teenager with a few points and then a great NM tag the next year :) His entire hunting career is forever ruined 🤣 His perspective is so screwed!
As has been said, don't expect CO 49 to resemble anything like NM 36. IF that was your first elk hunting experience you're in for a sad reality when now hunting other places. That part of NM is loaded with elk. It's probably the easiest place to shoot a bull that I have ever hunted and I have...
Fires are good for the forest and the wildlife. They are only bad for humans.
"Redwood trees & many other species need fire to survive and propagate. They need fire to release seeds from their cones, to expose bare mineral soil in which seedlings can take root, to recycle nutrients into the...
Use your eyes and ears more than your calls and you'll kill more bulls. Calls are one effective tool of many, but if you never have to use them and bulls never know you're there you'll increase your success 10X.
I have a bunch of mt bikes, but just for hunting I really like the fat bikes now. The one in the 1st pic I posted is what I use for hunting now. It has 4.8" tires and is a hard tail and hard fork. You get plenty of suspension from the tires for hunting purposes and pulls a trailer better than a...
Correct, no motor vehicles. And you can not camp in the WMA other than the one designated spot. It is not a day hunt on foot area. You will spend too much time and energy just trying to get back to the elk and then hours walking out.
455 is not really a unit you can effectively hunt on foot, especially during the archery season. You're looking at many miles just to get back where the elk will start then you have to hunt UP from there. Can be done on a bike to at least get back to where you can start hunting, but trust me...
