I haven't spent much time in a Cabelas but I recently got $100 worth of gift cards. They feel kind of like the home depot of sporting goods, selling mostly their own sub-par brands. Anyone have go-to things they get there for backpack hunting? Or should I just put the $100 as a down payment on a...
Lot's of love for #52 from fellow hunters. I'm actually heading into 52 to scout this coming weekend. Planning on hitting road #87 and hiking into the basin area. Scouting for elk and to see if my little hatchback can handle the road. Super pumped just to get out there.
I was super tempted to re-apply there. It was my first time hunting big game and I went solo - so in all honesty, I have no way of gauging the size of the 2 bulls I saw. I think the main reason for going for other units is simply for the adventure and the chance to explore new areas. Maybe...
There's currently a push going on for more BHA members! If you're a part of this forum but aren't a member it's definitely worth a look. It's such a great group of people fighting for exactly what we're in here chatting about. Public lands, better access, more adventures!

Preaching to the choir here but don't wait till the last minute to get your big game applications in by March 21st.
I still feel like a rookie as it's only my second year hunting big game. I put in for Elk, Antelope and Deer.
Last year I only put in for cow elk and came up empty handed in 6C...
Scouting Unit 6C tomorrow AM for elk. Where should I scout?
I hit up the area just east of the Caldera and south of the ski area a few weeks back. Thinking just north of Caldera higher up in elevation.

Does anyone know if there are different rules within the Santa Clara Pueblo in Unit 6C in NM?
There's a nice swath of road-less area I'm interested in scouting and the Pueblo covers most of it.
I just moved to NM with my wife and 2 young boys. We love our little Kia hatchback but I don't think it's going to cut it once I start tooling around the mountains this summer. The problem is that we are a 1 car family and have no desire to add a second car payment. Anyone else have a vehicle...
I drew a cow rifle for unit 6C. My first time applying. I'm a noob. Don't even own a gun. hah. Super pumped though. Working on prioritizing gear I need.
Hope to meet some of you at the upcoming bha pint night.
I guess big game draw results start trickling in today!
The department received almost 190,000 applications for about 59,000 deer, elk, antelope, oryx, ibex, Barbary sheep and javelina licenses -- an all-time application record and 8.3 percent increase over 2016.
Hunters can check their draw...
Just saw that BHA does something called #hiketohunt. Anyone know about this or participate? If not - let me know if any NM'ers are interested and I'll look into it.

Agree. I grew up fishing in MN. The BWCAW is my all-time favorite place to experience the outdoors. And is also constantly under attack from big oil so the more visibility the north shore gets the better.
I'm also a rookie hunter so am always looking for more episodes that touch on newbies and...
Applied for 6C, 52, 55 plus a 4th anything option. I think they're all post rut. I did this last minute so didn't have a whole lot of time researching units. Excited for results. I'm officially hooked and I haven't even hunted yet. hah.
Thanks for the welcome. And yes AggieOutlaw, I applied for some Elk tags last night just encase. I figure if I get one it'll light a fire that will force me to get over any apprehensions and get started practicing and finding gear until fall arrives. I'll start looking into bows and rifles. My...
