    Spice blends

Also, another vote for make your own. You can buy bulk (1lb) bags of spices (I like Frontier) on Amazon for a fraction of the cost of the little store bought bottles. Get some Redmond Real Salt or a good Himalayan Red Salt and you are waaaaay ahead of the curve. My wife has a cookbook that...

    Spice blends

You live close to or ever travel by a Bucc’ees? They have a solid spice selection. Also my local Ace Hardware stores have an even more impressive display. Not sure if either are options for you.

    Favorite turkey calls

I imagine it doesn’t matter as much to the turkeys as it does to me, but to my ears I have always felt like a pot/friction call can sound most like a bird. At that, I have really been really impressed with my newer copper pot combined with a laminated striker.

    Weekend Libations

Pendleton Whiskey, a company founded in 2003 to celebrate the American cowboy. Distilled and aged in Canada, imported to Oregon where it’s cut and bottled in Hood River, Oregon. Although it’s about 20% American and 1% Cowboy, it’s still about 100% awesome. Also I’m sure it goes without...

Agreed. Anyone wanting to save a lot of coin should spend $22 at Wally World and get an “Indoor Blackstone.”

Best (and Worst) Muzzleloading Bullet Experiences

Federal Bor Locks solid copper. are my go to. They shoot out of everything. Never had them shoot outside of 2moa in any ML. They are also CO legal which is why I started using them to begin with. I have killed two elk, two mule deer, and two whitetails with them. They are the most consistently...

    Buying binos sucks

Since we are on the topic, do any of you know anything about German Precision Optics or Bresser Pirsch binos? I see Costco has them from time to time for what seems like amazing deals. I’ve only ever found info about them on birding sights. I have a nice set of Meoptas but have been looking...

    Crossbow because elbow injury

Agreed. We will find points to argue about specific gear, but in the end, if tech leads to increased success and increased participation, the deer population will suffer. We are already seeing it in Indiana. We just don’t entirely agree on who/what’s to blame. To the OP, sorry for derailing...

    Crossbow because elbow injury

We did. We legalized centerfire rifles and have set record harvests. And we have seen bonus anterless tags fall. My county was a 6 anterless county before centerfire rifles. It has fallen every year or two and is now a 1 anterless tag county.

    Crossbow because elbow injury

Prior to legalization? 0%. Since legalized they have climbed and topped out at 15%. And as much as they have climbed, compound harvest percent had fallen. Point being, crossbow hunters are almost entirely compound hunters switching over.

    Crossbow because elbow injury

Do you have data on this? In Indiana, bow hunters (trad, compound, and xbow) take 25% of the deer. That breaks down to about 14% xbow, 10% compound, 1% trad bow. Interestingly, you can pull the data in Indiana and look at almost 20 years of data and you will find that the bow harvest has...

    Crossbow because elbow injury

Dude, what are you arguing? Muzzleloaders have their own season! Yes you are right. Congrats, muzzleloaders are a type do firearm (well sort of, not according to ATF, but that’s besides the point). My point is that during the 16 day FIREARMS SEASON, 60% (approximately) of the deer are...

    Any hog farmers on here?

I take my deer and elk to a commercial butcher in Colorado and he only has cordless sawzalls and fresh blades for his splitting and rough bone work. He has two Dewalts. One is over 10 years old and he said he’s yet to have one quit and they are plenty fast enough for what he does. I have an...

    Plate ‘em up

Thanks! I’d love the basic recipe. I HATE having to come inside and turn on an oven or use the burners to round out my meal. Rather have it all in one place.

I’d love to see those taters and onions before and after the cook. Always looking for good smoker sides.
