    Take Back Your Elk

Splitting hairs? Using dishonesty to promote an agenda is splitting hairs? Dishonesty is irrelevant when it's used to promote something you agree with? This is a New Mexican issue, land owners vs non land owners, the majority of transferable tags pass through a New Mexican resident and after...

    Take Back Your Elk

It appears to be 2 different landowners with the tags going to one. A lot of incentive work, as in it checks every box for elk habitat improvement in the last 3 years.

    Take Back Your Elk

@abqbw Page 7 of this thread, the real estate ad Jesse sent to Randy for the podcast you were part of, granted you didn't agree or disagree with the comment but you were part of the conversation. I also fully disagree with the secondary zone being unlimited, I do believe that is detrimental to...

    Take Back Your Elk

Kind of like the real estate ad for the 40 ac place that gets 15 tags. A little bit of research proved that wrong, fake, disingenuous in a few short minutes but not before it got thrown out as fact on a podcast and internet thread....;)

2024 Take Back Your Elk Report

It depends, a couple of units that I hunt have properties that go unit wide because they are inholdings or connect pieces of state land that make access easier. I haven't actually killed an elk on one of these properties but they have been very useful and saved some miles at times. And they did...

    Take Back Your Elk

@abqbw Does the resident landowner who receives the ranch code benefit from EPLUS or not? Doesn't matter if he's wealthy or owns 15 acres that he receives a tag through the SCR lottery for. Does he receive benefit and does he have the option of turning that tag into a resident tag? You're...

    Take Back Your Elk

The ranch codes are issued to the landowner first correct? Then said landowner decides whether he wants to... 1. Use a ranch code himself 2. Give a ranch code to a family member, friend, etc.. 3. Sell his ranch code to a family member, friend, etc.. 4. Sell his ranch code to an outfitter...

Can we just put HuntTalk forums behind a login?

Length of time since joining should probably play a part as well. It'd take me another 5 years to join the club as long as I only post about things I know about, which is very little.

Why do you like your gaiters?

I wear a pair of Sitka Thunderhead gaiters during archery season because they are super quiet. If it's super wet or deep snow I'll go with kenetreks. I do have a pair of peaks I want to try but just haven't yet. Maybe on a cow hunt in Wyoming later this year.

Privatization kills both Resident and Nonresident DIY hunting opportunity

I think most landowners look at how the general public treats the public access property and say "If this is the way they treat this, no way I'm allowing these people on my property". It's unfortunate but true. Maybe that's why I put more value on the best management of the resource than the...

Privatization kills both Resident and Nonresident DIY hunting opportunity

I didn't say wildlife was privatized, just the ranch that it's on. And the people that have access to it pay handsomely for it at times. That's the point entirely, if you put tags in the general draw and don't designate them as "private land only" then the management of the elk herds that live...

Privatization kills both Resident and Nonresident DIY hunting opportunity

Sounds like you should probably move to Arizona. Did you ever look into those "resident" application numbers? Might want to start there first and clean up that application pool. Also, the licenses are issued to landowners, resident or nonresident that pay some form of tax to the state, and they...

    Take Back Your Elk

So a question to the comment above "The point is that the herd is managed by the State, not the outfitters, and almost totally not the landowners.". Does Vidal benefit from the management practices of the rio costilla cooperative and vermejo or do vermejo and rio costilla benefit from vidal...

    Take Back Your Elk

"Except maybe there is one wrinkle. Current beneficiaries are deprived of the opportunity to learn how to hunt and teach and hook their children on hunting when they are deprived of the required tag to do it. Later generations of beneficiaries are being molded as non hunters by current tag...

    Take Back Your Elk

I think this discussion is great but I think most already have their minds made up as to what they think is right based on their experience, the only thing one can hope is to educate newcomers that haven't formed an opinion based on experience. New Mexico is 43% public, why does that matter...
