    Conservation or Big Beautiful Ballrooms?

I'm debating getting a national park pass this year simply because it'll have his face on it. I'm going to ask if I can pay extra to have it deleted.

    Conservation or Big Beautiful Ballrooms?

Everybody relax, it'll all be paid for with tariff revenue, even after every American gets a $2000 check and federal income tax is eliminated. It's truly amazing how dumb our politicians think Americans are. I guess it has worked for a long time because legacy media just repeated the political...

What are you guys paying for gas?

Gas went up here in eastern Idaho after crude oil prices fell. Not sure what that's about...

    RIP Spirit Airlines

Agreed that businesses should be allowed to fail. If that was the case we probably wouldn't have an airline industry right now after COVID. What irks me is that the cheaper option doesn't get a bailout, but the big carriers do, which will ultimately be bad for consumers because the big airlines...

    RIP Spirit Airlines

This one was likely allowed to fail because the big carriers wanted them to fail and likely put pressure on the administration to not bail them out. Now those larger carriers can up their prices because they don't have to compete with Spirit. And, if it comes to it, they will get bailed out.

    RIP Spirit Airlines

It's very interesting considering our president is a 'businessman' and is supposedly pro-business. Unfortunate indeed.

    Warm winter/ wet spring

Since the 22/23, each winter we have had in eastern Idaho/NW Wyoming has been average to below average and all the research says mule deer and antelope are rebounding. Elk weren't impacted too much from that winter and they're doing quite well. If this summer is hot and dry it could be a big...

New Elk Talk Podcast - Episode 148 - Public Lands With Congressman Mike Simpson

Bummer about his (and the rest of Idaho delegation's) vote on the Boundary Waters, but I guess we'll take what we can get...

    Green River trout fishing

It's usually quite good, but flows could be quite low this year. Although the headwaters are getting a bunch of snow right now and, compared to everywhere else, are in pretty good shape. I wouldn't bank on putting a boat in in October! If nothing else, it is an unbelievable landscape to hang out in.

    Antler Point Restrictions

I think the APRs are a tool to stabilize a herd especially after a catastrophic winter. In this case, it is region G and H in Wyoming, so most people go there with the intent of shooting a good one. WGFD serves the public as well. They updated some of their proposals due to public comment. Herd...

    Antler Point Restrictions

I want to get an idea of how Hunttalk folks feel about antler point restrictions. The WY G&F commission voted yesterday to retain antler point restrictions in the Wyoming Range and Jackson area that were implemented after the 22/23 winter. The G&F Dept. recommended removing them in those areas...

Got my first tag and have a population/predator question

Check out this report by IDFG. The pie chart on page 8 shows what actually kills calves (this is the elk report, so other ungulates aren't included, I assume). https://idfg.idaho.gov/sites/default/files/idaho-elk-management-plan-2024-2030.pdf

Got my first tag and have a population/predator question

Predator hunting for the most part is a drop in the bucket. Maybe come out during the summer and join FWP or one of the NGO's on a habitat enhancement project.

Elderly parents got dropped on their insurance

Unfortunately, that is the health insurance model. Pay into it when you're young and healthy, start using it and you become too expensive. It's a travesty what healthcare has become in this country and no politician will do anything about it. My condolences. As Randy said, healthcare.gov is...

    Versatile Riflescope Recommendations

I just put a Leupold VX-5 3-15 on my Bergara 6.5 PRC. Sportman's is having a sale on the Gen 1's and they're under $1k. The Gen 2 upgrades seem great, but hard for to justify the extra $500. I think they have a firedot on sale as well.

    No Country for Old Men

I gotta imagine that antelope died - solid blood trail. I always told myselg he was using a .25-06 w/ the bull barrel - solid for antelope. I wonder if anyone at Game and Fish caught wind of him leaving that track and not doing his due diligence to find that animal. Guess we'll never know...

    Made in China

I think Origin's hunt line pretty much failed. I don't know anything about Forloh. I think this long held belief that stuff made overseas is automatically lower quality than gear made in the USA is misleading. Those countries have had the factories for decades and have a long history of making...

Lightweight One Piece Rings And Bases

I've always liked and had good luck with the Talley lightweight rings. I think having the one piece makes things easier and there are fewer points of failure. The Leupold Backcountry rings look sweet too.

Still Hunting Mule Deer in the Mountain West?

Still hunting thick timber is tough, but I've had success moving between smaller scale broken country. Basically a move and glass strategy. You don't sit in one area very long, but pick a few areas to hit during the day and move slowly between them glassing along the way.
