Wyoming unit 125 (elk mountain) Late season.

Hey hunt talkers. I have the 125 type 1 tag which is good 10-1 -12-31. due to some unexpected family obligations arising i will not be able to hunt the Oct 1 opening week as i had planned. The tag is good all the way to Dec 31, so my question for you guys who know the elk habits in the unit is...

thanks for the responses. So if i understand correctly the only public access point is the far northern end of the SWA. nothing on the southern end? (long mtn area)

Three Forks Ranch... Outside of RFW Boundries.

So I have read Big Fins post about not being able to hunt BLM lands with a regular OTC rifle tag, if that falls INSIDE the Ranching for Wildlife boundries on the TFR, even with a vaild tag for the unit, unless its a RFW tag... It really sucks i know! but it is what it is. So my question is, are...

    Accessing Landlocked National Forest..

Yep i sure have... There is absolutely no way into this particular public land without paying hefty trespass fees, or going with an outfitter... Without being to specific about where this exact area is, there has been significant issues with the lack of access to the national forest land, and...

    Accessing Landlocked National Forest..

There is an old ranch 2 track running through this section of BLM. And from my research i believe i'm in the clear to land here legally.. And yes, i have no doubt the outfitter who hunts this area and surrounding ranch will not be happy AT ALL. But i'm determined to enjoy our public lands...

    Accessing Landlocked National Forest..

I'm sure most of you hunt talk regulars have surely seen the episodes where Randy flies into landlocked BLM to hunt otherwise almost impossible to access areas and gets into big herds of elk. If i'm understanding the rules correctly, BLM land is generally ok to land small aircraft such as...

    AZ 22N Late season Archery

Ive done this hunt and will be next door in 23 this yr for the late archery. If you go into the hunt thinking of it as a poor mans sheep hunt i think you'll enjoy it. The Mogollon rim country is beautiful. PM me with questions if you'd like.

    Crazy Mountains on horseback...

Hey all.. looking for some info on what the pack trails, and the back country of the crazies are like for packing in for an archery elk hunt. Best trailheads to start from, how many miles deep you can ride.. water for the stock.. things like that. Any info is appreciated. (I have my own horses)

    Early elk rifle hunt Arizona

An early rifle elk tag in Az is something a very very small% of elk hunters will ever have in their pocket. Conrgats to you!

Etiquette question, dealing with outfitter on public land....

The hunters were actually cordial and decent to talk with... it was the outfitter who was acting like we were jerks for being to close to "his" camp... And this is in an OTC unit in Colorado, and finding good bulls in otc units consistently in CO can be very difficult.. and this basin has had...

Etiquette question, dealing with outfitter on public land....

claiming that area is exactly what he was/is trying to do.. talking with him, he acted like we were wrong for spoiling the "wilderness drop camp experience" for his paying hunters by camping to close to them. And i should add that we couldn't actually even see their camp from ours.. Its about...

Etiquette question, dealing with outfitter on public land....

So here is a real scenario i am dealing with on some national forest in southern Colorado. a few years ago myself and dad, rode horses aprrox 5 miles into a steep basin and found a barely suitable, but excellent place to highline the horses and camp due to the extreme steepness and very few...

Colorado archery elk unit 77 partner?

Plenty of elk once you figure things out.. But VERY rugged steep terrain. If you have no info about the area you plan to hunt, like wallows and bedding areas... Id hunt the second half of september. This area can be a good hunt if the bulls are bugling, but can be a brutal tough experience if...

Horses on not?... AZ 22n late archery.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess the horses are the way to go. And an average 5pt raghorn would be plenty good enough for me to release an arrow on this hunt. Of course a big nasty dark horned 330 would be amazing, but I know this is a tough hunt. Any others tips are greatly appreciated

Horses on not?... AZ 22n late archery.

This hunt is fast approaching for me, and im really torn on whether to trailer my horses 20+ hours, and ride in and hunt the north end of the wilderness several miles deep. Or skip the horses this time and hunt under the rim and or little diamond rim area like alot of the other tag holders...
