So I am moving out of MT (to southern Idaho). Normally I hunt in SE MT for mule deer. I don't really have time to drive that far this year, so I've been looking at SW MT.

I saw a Grizz on July/2014, while backpacking deep in the Pintlers. I was too slow to get it on camera (it ran off immediately upon our encounter). I don't think many people believe that I saw what I saw. But there was no mistaking it :)

Yep. As mentioned earlier, I've done it twice and penetrated both times. I think if you hit the thick part you're screwed, though. Best to avoid it all together ;)

I use my hammock just for mid-day naps or for something to sit on. It's a Grand Trunk Nano 7. I use Whoopie Slings for the harness. Total weight is under 9 oz., perfect for throwing in my daypack.
I don't use a paper map either unless I am doing a long backpacking trip in big country (in which case I believe they are important) . I will not got lost if my gps dies while out hunting..... I won't go in to detail but it involves common sense and experience.
