Best time to buy map chip?

Broken screen on Garmin gps
I dropped my Garmin gps map 62 on a rock and cracked the screen. It is not a touch screen. Garmin charges a flat fee of about $110 to repair. Anyone ever tried it themselves or know of a cheaper alternative?- Hammerhead
