    Stop Blaming Conservation Orgs

This^. Ben2 speaks smart. I always say, join a group that reflects your values. There are groups for about every possible niche. I don't care what group you join, just do something larger than yourself. Then have fun. But I have no time anymore for groups that tear each other down. I'm more...

Study: Hunters Die After Consuming CWD-Infected Venison

National Deer Assoc and biologists like Heffelfinger are casting skeptical shade on this report. https://deerassociation.com/nda-urges-deer-hunters-to-consider-new-cwd-report-with-caution/ BL

FWP Proposes Conservation Easement on Private Timberland in Northwest Montana

This easement is one of the few pieces of good news when it comes to access and habitat in NW MT. I've been here 30 years and can list dozens of places I used to hunt that are lost forever behind locked gates, gated communities, trophy homes, glamping resorts, strip malls and subdivisions...

    Journaling

I use a Rite in the Rain journal. But I will transcribe particularly memorable days on my laptop after I get home. My kill spreadsheet is on my laptop.

    A wolfs elk story

I get it that wolves and lions and bears eat elk that we would like to eat. And they need to be managed. But woods without 'em are a bit too boring for me. I'll eat the occasional tag for the privilege of hunting around four-leggeds who are so much better at it than I will ever be.

    Journaling

As a writer, I journal regularly, but have gaps that last several years. Honestly, I think it's the deadliest habit I have -- what dates were elk bugling, trout biting what flies, when were grayling or perch spawning, bears eating grass on what slopes in the spring? My memory sucks but it's...

    "Texas Heart Shot"???

I was teaching a hunter ed course to a bunch of 11 year olds this week. We were covering shot placement. I was just about to warn them against the THS, when I asked, "Any of your dad's from Texas?" A couple raised their hand. So I warned them against the Arkansas Heart Shot. Seemed safer than...

Montana Mountain King - Vaughn, MT man pleads guilty to felony wildlife crimes

This is why we pushed the game farm reform initiative, I-143, back in 2000. The industry stunk of this kind of crap even back then. Some folks don't change.

What age to be a millionaire?

We all trust different sources. Here's one example. https://www.fool.com/the-ascent/personal-finance/articles/study-shows-only-27-of-wealthy-americans-are-self-made/ Inherited wealth is part of it, but so is the setting one grows up in, such as schools, access to advanced education, connections...

What age to be a millionaire?

Most wealth in America is inherited. I imagine many people to "millionaire" mark when their older relatives pass on. Also, a million ain't what it used to be. My wife and I bought a house when we started our careers 30 years ago. $48,000. That very same house is now listed on Zillow for...

    Wool hunting clothing

Wool has saved my ass so many times I am forever in debt to sheep. Rifle season in NW MT is between 70 above and 20 below, but mostly hovering around freezing and usually raining/sleeting/snowing. Yeah, I have puffies. They're cozy when it is cold and dry, but branches tend to rip them up. Sit...

    Moon phase

Ignore the moon. It matters not. Rut matters most. Elk see very well in the dark. Moon or no moon. Ever rode a horse in the dark? Even without a moon, they do just great. Moon comes up, they still do great. People have pathetic eyes in regards to night vision. But it's a mistake to assume elk...

    SB 347 Kansas-Opinions?

Not sure of the context. I don't believe in the line between "consumptive" and "non-consumptive." On the other hand "shall give consideration" doesn't seem too prescriptive to me. I'm no attorney and don't know the political context. But I would focus on actions more than words myself.
