Vote: African Taxidermy VS a week in Cape Town

Before you go, think carefully about what you really want on the wall, and what your wife will put up with. I did a hunt in Namibia in about 2005 with a friend and his son. I took 2 springbok, 2 gemsbok, and a zebra. When it was all over I realized that the taxidermy cost was more than the...

    Accountant cost

I have used the HR Block program for years. I find it to be a little easier than Turbotax and a bit cheaper. For me, the hard part has always getting all the input paperwork in one spot. Plugging the numbers into TT or HRB generally does not require a lot of decisions, although every so often...

    Wyoming cow recap

I agree, sounds like a great hunt. You saw more elk than I do sometimes walking around in the woods.

    Antler drop dates

I remember reading that one factor is breeding activity which then causes testosterone levels to drop. Many years ago in NJ I picked up a large shed on Dec. 12.

    Question on Twist Rate

"...around 400,000rpm was where things started getting iffy..." For 3,000 ft/second and and an 8" twist, it looks like the rotation speed is 270,000 rpm. So 400,000 rpm is pretty hot.

    How do you find Varget?

IMO we may be moving close to the conditions which have produced ammo / powder / primer shortages in the past. No value judgements here, just looking at the clouds.

2019 Montana Elk lessons learned... A first timer's story of extreme weather and things I wish I would've known.

Thanks for an excellent post. I have made similar mistakes over the years, in many cases more than once. What was amazing was going back and teasing out the mistakes and the lessons, then having the strength and humility to post it twice. Now to go back and read it again.

MT residents thoughts on Steve Bullock

IMO the real issue on this thread is what are we going to do? As a minimum, Bullock seems to be the least bad option on both sides of the fence, so I plan on sending him a contribution, recommending that my wife do the same, and voting for him in any polls that I come across. Yeah, I have...

Life after a Heart Attac / Surgery

Well, it was my turn on January 8th. We are in Frisco, CO, and I was cross country skiing about a mile from the hospital here. Wound up with a helicopter ride to Denver and two stents. I go in for my first cardiac rehab visit tomorrow. I feel pretty good but name more cautious than before...

Use grandpa’s old 30-06, or buy something new?

We talk about hunting heritage - that 742 is about as much heritage as it gets. Just be sure to practice with that trigger. Also - are you familiar with the phrase "minute of elk"? Whatever you decide, good luck.
