That's great news! The Montana Wildlife Federation deserves a lot of credit for this, as well as helping to defeat a slew of bills designed to favor commercial interests and non-residents over Montana sportsmen and public wildlife. MWF is the ONLY group that consistently stands up for the...
sweetnectar, I can't follow your fuzzy math. Are you using the chart that WT_in_MT posted? It's the only one with the final total numbers for all the districts. Please list the districts and the numbers for each for which your are making your calculations. If you average the numbers for all...
sweetnectar, let me spell it our for you. You are WRONG - read the darned regulations! The chart in the regulations that you are getting your numbers from only shows the FIRST CHOICE successfuls for both residents and nonresidents combined. The chart that WT_in_MT posted shows the TOTAL...
Brenden told the guy from the Bitterroot not to lecture the committee - the guy didn't say anything. He should have said, "Excuse me - who works for who here?"
Lawnboy, I'm not going to re-state the all the reasons for the limited elk archery permits - I've already done that in the Hb 361 thread - you can refer to that as it pretty much sums it up. Also, see my response to Big Fin in this thread. To endlessly argue with you guys about this is...
Big Fin, you know that it's not just about limiting non-residents (see my posts in the thread on HB 361), but it is an important reason. Nothing against non-residents - just that they should be limited to 10% of our trophy elk archery opportunities, same as for moose, sheep, goats, mule deer...
Lawnboy, actually it's because of guys like you that Utah is the way it is - landowners control the tags, sell them to rich guys, and the average Utah hunter is left out. From your posts, it sounds like you think landowners should own the wildlife.
Thanks for the information, Ingomar. SB 255 may be the worst bill of this entire legislature. It will paralyze the Commission so that nothing will get done. Maybe that's the real intent of the bill.
That's why it's so important to keep the limited elk archery permits in all of eastern Montana. It's the only way to limit non-residents to no more than 10%. Otherwise, they will continue to take more and more of our trophy bull opportunities.
So Ben, if it comes out of conference, it has to be voted on again by both the full House and Senate? That would mean there could be a few more chances to kill the bill?
SB 255 still has to pass 3rd reading which is scheduled for tomorrow, so there is still time to defeat this bill! Please contact your legislator tonight and tell them to vote NO on SB255. It passed 2nd reading today by a 31-10 vote but there may still be hope if the Senators hear from enough...
