    Learning about Elk

We don't have very much if any mountains that have snow on them all winter. Maybe Black Mountain, but that would have to be a cold winter. Here, they seem to be using the stip mines for grazing. Where you see deer in bottoms, you don't see many elk in them. I'm not sure if it's the...

    Learning about Elk

I've never hunted outside the southeast, and thus have never hunted elk. However, it won't be long now until we'll have a chance to hunt them in Kentucky. I'm a little curious as to their typical patterns in a given day? How far will they roam around? Most deer around here like everywhere...

    View from the Kitchen Window

This photo was taken at Cataloochie, NC. These elk were taken from the LBL herd in western Kentucky and transplanted to the Smokey Mountains in North Carolina. It's not going to be long for us to get the opportunity to hunt elk in Kentucky. Skipper

Full Draw-How long can you hold it?

I usually tone my draw weight down to right at 60 for that reason. I want to be able to shoot sitting or nealing if I have to. Skipper

    Have You?

Had the opportunity to test your safety harness? I got to thinking about that Saturday in the stand. I always put it on, but if I actually had to use this thing, what kind of mess would I be in? Maybe instead of breaking my neck, I'd hang upside down till dead. I don't know what exactly would...

Full Draw-How long can you hold it?

Holding full draw used to be part of my practice regiment. These days I don't have enough time, but back then I would hold it for 3 to 5 minutes before releasing. I could probably hold it about a minute today before I get too shaky. Skipper

Early bear hunt/scouting trip nice photos

Nice pics JJ, I really enjoy taking outdoor photos, like you said, no skinning, no packing out, and its a lot easier to get permission to do sometimes. We go to the Smokies a lot to photograph wildlife. Skipper

How about some Black Bear Pics

That bear was in Cades Cove, and fortunately, he didn't eat me. When I first saw him, he was up in the cherry tree. I was kinda surprised at how something that big could jump around from limb to limb. Anyhow, we were taking pictures of him along with a couple dozen other people. He ate his...
