I’ve been using floorless shelters exclusively for 7 years. Minus a bad experience in the Chihuahua desert in the summer, I’ve never had bad issues with insects etc.
It’s great. You can fillet the larger ones like you would a backstrap off a deer then cut the strips down to 1-2” pieces. We soak them in butter milk, then bread and fry them.
I live outside of Dubois and spend a good amount of time hunting and fishing up in the Absarokas and the rest of 67. If you have any unanswered questions about logistics, access, etc feel free to send a message. There are grizzlies all around Dubois, but the further west or north you go in 67...
What part of Wyoming are you moving to? I’ve hardly used my nl pure 12x42’s since I got my 16x42 sig image stabilizing binos. I dropped the sigs several times last fall and cracked the glass🤦♂️. Sig sent me a new pair even though it was my fault. During the time I was waiting for the new pair...
My buddy has one and uses it regularly. He swears by it. I had one collapse part of my tent in the middle of the night a few years ago and it got me considering them. I usually use limbs and brush to build a little barrier around my tent hoping it’ll alert me if something tries coming through...
I primarily solo archery backpack hunt, so I’m in the same boat. I was down at our local thrift store a while back and they had an unused bear fence marked down to a third of new price, so I snagged it. I plan on using it more for camping with the wife and kids. The weight isn’t awful and I...
For black bear I agree. But in grizzly country it would be nice to know if there’s potentially one nearby that’s shown interest in claiming your kill. It would be an added layer of prevention. I haven’t ever thought of using a trip alarm on a kill, but I’m going to look into it. I’m up in...
I’ve had several failures using a steripen. I’ve gotten to where I bring a 6 liter gravity works filter system, an extra filter in case one has issues, and iodine tablets as a backup. If I'm up high and have access to springs near their source I usually don’t take the time to filter the water.
I’ve used Mystery Ranch, Seek Outside, Stone Glacier, and the Exo K4. The K4 is by far the best pack system I’ve used. The others all had their strengths. I can say one of the most painful pack outs I’ve had was with a mystery ranch Marshall pack. It was probably an older design than their...
I moved to Wyoming three years ago. I was in the same boat. If you want more than your general otc elk tag that you’ll be able to buy this fall you can apply for a leftover reduced cow tags as a non resident. There are a handful of units with decent odds to draw. By the time the type 6/7 seasons...
