After a slow start to the season I finally got out for my 2nd hunt and did great on very few ducks flying. The 2 "brown" ducks are Mexican duck drakes, fairly common in NM.- jrabq

I've cut steaks from every main muscle group off the HQ. The center section of the sirloin tip is surprisingly tender, even though it has one major strip of membrane running through it. I like steaks more than roasts, so I cut most of the HQ into steaks. Even though the top and bottom round is supposed to be tougher, I've had mostly good luck marinating them and grilling rare to medium rate. Or using them in some sort of stir fry sliced thin. I've had several close calls, most involving boats and water while duck hunting. But in top 2 is the time my body just ran out of gas while elk hunting. Nothern NM at ~10,000 ft, spot a herd of elk 3/4 mile away with maybe 30 minutes of shooting light left. Problem was a foot of snow on the...- jrabq

Yes, as the current spreads along the ground the potential difference between your 2 feet can be huge, and kill you. I believe I've read to keep your feet together and don't touch anything else; limb, tree, etc. And don't stand next to your buddy, as Buzz mentioned. Having said all that I...- jrabq

Anyone notice changes with Colorado's reissue list this fall?
I thought I'd have a chance today because there were some great tags that would draw traffic away from the mediocre one I was after, ....I was wrong ☹️. I had luck 3 and 5 years ago getting a reissued elk tag, but so far this year it's been a bust.- jrabq

I hunt near this area a lot, and I've almost crapped my pants a few times from lightning strikes. Thunderstorms in September can be extreme, so that's my biggest fear. I've also seen a few huge black bears in that area, unlikely but not impossible to have a confrontation. If they rushed off...- jrabq
