Should I get a tag too?! Alberta Big Horn Sheep hunt

Mental games. I had trouble with a gun earlier this year. I missed easy shots. I still haven’t target shot it because I don’t want to know. My shooting mentality is better to blame the rifle than to realize I suck.

Needing to buy the wife some binoculars

I’m a diehard Swaro guy buy I agree on the Sig. My son bought a pair. My wife used them scouting one weekend this summer. I took her out yesterday and she used the Mavens and Swaro but complained about the shaky binoculars. She wanted the image stabilized binos. I can give you a long list...

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

Scope base shims. My 257 Roberts didn’t have much upside on the turret once sighted in. Aluminum shim under one side of the scope base changed the point of impact giving me more than enough upside turret.

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

Shims will get your scope past your shooting ability.

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

My opinion is that IDFG commission will approve opticless rifles (or whatever is the restriction) as a choice to be used by IDFG for hunts. How it progresses from will depend on IDFG’s and hunters acceptance of the idea. If IDFG said unit 39 deer had the restriction, the hunters might ride...

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

The idea is from Utah, who already has it in place, and presented to a commissioner from the SE Mule Deer hunters. The SE Idaho mule deer hunters are trying their best to change mule deer weapons to lower harvest. Their last idea, which died, was to make all mule deer hunts muzzy.

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

No rangefinders means more wounded animals. No GPS means wasted time for SARs and probably a few deaths for lost souls. There’s plenty of other items of tech to ban.

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

Against. Muzzy hunts should be primitive.

BHA taps Ryan "Cal" Callahan as new President/CEO of BHA

Tawney’s been gone for almost two years. He’s created a quasi public land conservation company. Pat Berry was CEO for 18 months but stepped aside in July. I didn’t know about this until today.

2026 Idaho Nonresident Deer & Elk

There could be. I’m familiar with the Middle Fork hunt capping.

2026 Idaho Nonresident Deer & Elk

I think there aren’t any unlimited control hunts for NRs. They capped them a few years ago. Middle Fork hunts come to mind. There may be others I’m missing.

Theoretically, every NR who applies in the general tag draw and buys a license, can apply in the trophy or DEA draw. DEA would only cost an app fee. Trophy app would have to front the tag fee.

2026 Idaho Nonresident Deer & Elk

IDFG’s website has good information. You can find the success rate for each tag over several years. You should be able to figure out the units that are good and the units with issues . Idaho is 70% public land plus it has agreements with some timber companies for access. I’ve never had...

    Trapping Thread 2025/2026

Interesting fact: all skunks have different stripe patterns. It’s cool to look at the variations. I’ve always caught skunks as by catches in my bobcat sets. They sold well. Last big fur auction this spring had average skunk price at $80. Very nice. However, be the skunk Dad!

2026 Idaho Nonresident Deer & Elk

I’m bored at lunch and called IDFG. On my third go around on the hold cycle, licensing picked up. My assumption was correct. All first round choices first, then all second round choices, etc. It makes the first round choice pick important if you want to definitely hunt or are trying for a...
