None of the above! 300 Winchester with quality muzzlebrake the kicks about like a 243! My 300 Win with muzzle brake kicks way less than my 300 WSM without a brake
Im currently using a used swaro spotter and demo pair of binos. Saved a bunch of $ by taking my time and waiting for the right price.
Leica is tough to beat for binos. You can save having to buy a rangefinder by buying a combo rangefinder/binos.
There is no guarantee you’ll be able to go boneless with a mature bull, especially if you are alone. They are still extremely difficult to roll by yourself even after being gutted. I used several logs to hold up legs while caping, gutting, and rolling.
I put a muzzlebreak on my 300 Winchester and it kicks around the same as a 243! I can shoot several boxes of shells without a sore shoulder. Just make sure to wear ear protection!
There are some excellent facebook pics and video of those bulls. Also a bull moose called Frank the Tank.

My 300 WSM and 300 Win mag are both Sakos. I love them both and they shoot tight groups. I put a muzzy break on the 300 Win and can shoot several boxes of shells without a sore shoulder or forehead.
I tried the extremes and only wore them one day before returning them. They were like stilts on my feet on side hills and rock. Super unstable. They also are super heavy and nearly impossible to stalk quietly with their thick, stiff soles. Some guys like them but I hated them!
I’ve shot a heck of a lot of different big game species wirh just one shot each through my 300 WSM. The only complaint I have is the cost and availability of shells (at times).
My go-to recently has been my 300 win. The shells are cheaper and always available. I put a muzzy break on mine...
Although an Inreach is good, it's better to be prepared for the worse. Weather can change so quickly for the worse! I was caught in a downpour in July in the alpine in Colo and got thoroughly soaked. I had the very best gortex rain gear available but it didn't take much time with gale-force...
That’s great to hear they are spraying cheatgrass! The antelope, deer, and other wildlife will benefit from it in the long run although it may temporarily spook them.
I recently bought a western mountaineering 0 degree bag. Although it’s not synthetic I would highly recommend it. Super light, warm, and compact. I’ve been on numerous Alaska sheep and goat hunts and wouldn’t worry about down with a decent outer. Just put it in a dry bag each day.
I had a Wyo moose tag quite a few years ago. It took 6 trips by myself x 1.7 miles one way. 6 trips x 1.7 miles x both directions comes out to 20.4 miles. Obviously 1/2 of those miles is with a hefty load and the other is with just a pack on my back. I could barely stand upright with each...
Things change dramatically from early April through late May. There’s nothing tougher than trying to decoy or sway a tom away from a flock of hens. Very similar to a herd bull elk during rut.
Things change later in the season after hens start breaking up
Guys offering to pay trespass fees is a drop in the bucket vs outfitters going door to door offering leasing right $. My guess is that outfitters have royally screwed things up across the Midwest and West vs a few average joes asking permission and offering small trespass fees.
According to posts by the 6.5 fanatics they can lethally kill elephant size game at 500 yards with pin-point accuracy! Elk-sized game drop like a jackrabbit!
It really depends on a backpack vs boat hunt. 2 completely different scenarios.
I can’t imagine hiking through the jungles along the coast trying to get in the alpine once snow starts accumulating.
If you are on a boat hunt it likely is good to have snow to bring Billie’s down from the alpine.
Maybe worth a compromise rather than completely robbing the best areas that the public currently can legally access for desert acreage.
How about the total opposite. Filling in some of the public areas with additional blm that currently exist in the Freezeouts and other prime habitat in...
A better proposition for the public would be to increase the HMA acreage in some of the areas on the east side! This current public land would be totally lost with the swap. Having the entire east side off limits to the public will provide a giant private elk haven with no hunting pressure.
