OP I agree with all the posters above. I won't repeat what they've said and just add two things:
1) Anecdote. I got my first Softopper this year about 6 months ago. Used from a Gen3 Tacoma but I've got a 2nd gen Frontier. It didn't quite fit right. I contacted support, told them the...
This. If you're car-camping just get a cheapo 0F bag and sleep cozy. If it isn't enough put your current sleeping bag inside for the double-burrito effect!
I'll weigh in on one thing re floor-less tents: if you're in the south and expecting to stay at campgrounds ever (even non-campgrounds that are commonly used for camping) then rodents can be an issue w/ floorless tents. If you're out in the wilds then it's all good.
And just to be clear: when you "return" it you only get your points back or your money, right? That's what I just read and that makes me... disappointed.
You might should have stopped there. You've created a strawman for MMM and then knocked it down.
It sounds like you didn't need anyone to break it down for you. That's great. He took the time to share his experience with the world and it is a message that r esonates with a lot of folks. I...
OP IMO you've landed on the best "bang for the buck" small/mid-size truck. Frontier. It's undervalued compared to the Taco. It's adequate for what you've specified. It'll do what you want.
If it were me I'd just get a midsize SUV hybrid. (or even wagon/hatchback). Get 30-38mpg, keep the...
OP has come and gone but it's hard to pass up sharing one's opinion: if you've got a 4x4 dually then you already have a truck. Why get another one? For fuel economy? That makes no sense. The more of a "truck" it is the lower the fuel efficiency. You can get a hybrid Maverick and get a...
Are y'all putting in contacts in < 10F in the pre-dawn hours camping? I gave up this trip. I can do it mid-day if I'm back at camp but first thing in the morning I just stick with glasses. I don't like them as much as contacts but the hassle factor is a lot less. Just having un-frozen water...
I don’t think you can get TRD OR with 4 doors and 6’ bed. Just short bed and 4 doors or regular bed and 2 doors. if you want both the longer bed and 4 doors no off-road pkg available.
I have a Frontier and had the same decision to make. There is no wrong answer. 4dr 6’ bed is full-size...
I came to add my 2 cents but you've already decided. Yeah, skip the truck tent. Camper shell is the best bang for the buck way to be fast and comfortable (relatively).
Re. the cooler: Once you start loading up the big coolers IMO they stay where they are unless you've got an extra set of...
I hope (and think) this is not true. I put my Yakima track system through the thick part of my ARE and it's stout. I wouldn't use it for lots of heavy, long lumber but short of that it's been great. Also, despite being a bit iffy, I do lift the shell of my truck with a hoist by the rack...
Thanks folks for the feedback. Sounds like most people really just don't like their appearance on the landscape. Quite understandable. No power generation plant is probably great to look at compared to nature but these turbines are spread over miles and miles instead of one single location...
...and all are what I can already get behind: They are an eye sore. Especially in an otherwise untouched area. So I hear you. That's true. I find *operational* wind turbines to be a minor nuisance. Disabled ones, however, are just terrible to look at. And there are plenty in California...
You seem to be asking for engineers' input and not mine, but I'm going to give it anyway since no one has taken the bait. It sounds like you're rigging some stuff and you have some idea of what you're doing. I'd say go for it and build it as safe as you can. That's what I'd do.
To directly...
I'm not understanding the hate over wind power. Can someone clue me in? I'll be up front and admit I haven't read up on the details how efficient they are in the big picture.
All energy generation has plusses and minuses. Nuke, hydro, coal, solar, etc. Some are easily scaled some aren't...
The issue with fossil fuels is -- IMO -- a bigger picture issue. These fuels took 100s of millions of years to create. And we've been extracting them at scale for... 200? If we could keep extracting for 1000 years it's still a tiny fraction of how long it took to create the fuel. It's...
