Northern Minnesota deer camp was good to me this year. Got this nine pointer (my biggest whitetail) on Sunday morning with my .270 Win. The 130 Hornady CX destroyed the heart. He ran about 50 yards and died right in the trail. Easiest drag I’ve ever had!
Found a nice Montana buck this morning. He was rubbing/raking brush when I shot him, trying to impress the doe he was with I guess. 6.5 creedmoor loaded with a Barnes 120 TTSX.
Finally found a Montana buck. There were three in the group he was in, the other two had shed their sheaths and he had already shed one. I don’t mind, I’m happy to have my favorite meat in the cooler. Gave him the Howa Handshake with the @Big Fin Howa in 6.5 Creedmoor.
I am. Missoula area. It’s the weirdest thing, I saw plenty of blues during spring bear and this summer when on training hikes with my dog. I’ve hit most of those areas this season, and no birds.
It’s been a tough season so far so it felt good to get two spruce grouse and a ruffed with my GWP Ada this morning. Still haven’t seen a blue grouse yet this year though…
This stroganoff adjacent recipe is one of my favorites with sharpies. (Ive also used it for spruceys) https://www.jager-food.com/blog/sharptail-zrcher-geschnetzeltes-or-swiss-stroganoff
Danielle Prewett also has an excellent recipe for “Pan Seared Sharptail Grouse with Raspberry Sauce” in her...
Selling two boxes of Federal 130 grain Trophy Bonded Tip and two boxes of Federal 136 grain Terminal Ascent. Prefer to sell face to face to avoid shipping. Located in Missoula. $40/ per box, $150 if you take all four.
I’ve got no experience with the .264 Win Mag, but I’ll pile onto the “Buy it” crowd. The proper number of hunting rifles is always n+1, especially when they’re chambered in cool cartridges.
When I was 12 my dad told me he was going to let me choose the hunting rifle I wanted, but it had to be a bolt action .270. I chose a Ruger M77 Mark ii and it’s still one of my favorite rifles. Shoots 130 CX Superformance loads 1 MOA consistently. I’m going to have to try to get a deer with it...
Today was pretty wild. I as able to call a hen off private land and this tom took the bait and followed her. Once he saw the decoys, it was on. As the hen was standing about ten feet from me, he was whooping up on my jake decoy. Finally, she worked her way back to him and when they finally...
I’m hoping to be able to hunt ID for the first time this spring. Looking forward to setting baits there and also doing some spot and stalk near home in MT.
Finished off my 2024 big game season with this Montana creek bottom buck. 300 WBY 180 TTSX. Thrilled to have full freezers and my dog is thrilled we can go chase roosters and ducks again.
I’ve owned a Mark V Hunter Bronze in 300 WBY for a little over a year now. The only game I’ve been fortunate enough to take with it thus far has been a pronghorn doe, but it was sure worked well on that hunt. This is the first new rifle I’ve purchased for myself, and I’m sure the higher end...
I’ve taken a pronghorn buck, a muley buck, and six whitetails with either the gmx or cx superformance load out of my .270 at ranges from 40 yards to 300. Most showed very little meat damage, but I did shoot a doe that was quartering to at 125 yards and that front shoulder was messed up pretty...
