I hunt with a .358 Winchester Ruger M77. Been shooting 200gr Barnes TSX. I don't reload so I buy them, but it's 2675 fps at the muzzle. Zeroed at 200 yds it's 2.1" high at 100 and 8.9" low at 300. It's sexy and puts holes in things. All these were one shot and it was over.
Seeing Terry take a fair bit of flack on social media for taking part in the article in the OP, and thinking about this thread, I think if folks are to change their minds on things it is a tightrope to walk when communicating the outcomes of their decisions. I just don't know if "I told you so!"...
Quintessential: Representing the typical example of a quality or class, embodying the pure, essential nature of something:
I am not a great deer hunter or hunter at all, but after 20+ years of shooting mule deer every year I am on year 6 of shooting just whitetails in Western Montana. Western...
I've only been allowed to vote for 23 years, but I've yet to experience a national election that wasn't a version of Pick Yer Idiocy, though it seems to get worse every go-round. That is if you want to put your name down for a side that could plausibly win. I haven't picked a winner for over a...
I’ve met Terry as well. Seems like a good guy who does a lot of the things celebrated on this site. There’s a lot of damage being done and a lot of good has lost momentum and a lot of knowledge lost.
I don’t know if the disappointment of certain folks who voted for Trump will really matter in...
Annual resurrection.
Caught 7 ling and one rainbow in about 3 hours of fishing. Kept 3. Most were pretty small.
When I first posted on this thread 11 years ago, I spent most of those nights helping kids catch fish. Reel it in, land it, get it off the hook, rebait it.
Now I just watch them...
Under current law, they are not allowed to institute such a fee.
(1) Prohibition on fees for certain activities or services
The Secretary shall not charge any standard amenity recreation fee or expanded amenity recreation fee for Federal recreational lands and waters administered by the Bureau...
Definitely quibbleable with what the word "Right" means, but we kind of have a Right to an opportunity, and I don't think requiring a Montanan to pay more than a tank of gas worth of money, or less than 10% of their hunting season's beer budget, runs against that.
Interesting. A Working Group I am a member of was asked to submit a comment on a road access approval to a mine claim on BLM property. Basically, the mine owner, within their period of use, can drive a road closed to the public to access their claim. When we asked the BLM whether or not this...
I saw an instagram post where the owner of some company out of Idaho that makes holsters was lamenting some decision by the fish and game commission there that limited technology somehow.
He then said that wildlife today are becoming “more evasive” than they have historically been, and we need...
Somewhere in the beginning Commissioner Wargo brought up how they should be developing ideas over time together. That would make a ton of sense.
On the boards I have chaired that are subject to Montana's Open Meetings Law, if a large change is proposed to an agenda item, we typically would not...
The premise of “opportunity tags” is a dubious one, and it was nice to hear Commissioner Wargo and others point that out.
Archery antelope ain’t innocuous on bucks.
It is should be frowned upon to: (1) Concoct an amendment that folks will have strong opinions on without any warning prior to the meeting (Cebull), and it is a poorly designed process to: (2) To vote on an amendment prior to public comment. The latter is actually going to bog this meeting down...
I lived in one of the old white Stimson Houses (House 64) in Bonner for 3 years from 2008-2011. Loved it. It's really just a suburb of Missoula, but there's close access to the Sapphires and Garnets, and the Blackfoot is out your front door. If I ever lived in the Missoula area again, it would...
Hiked a lot of miles to get a bull this year, and yesterday had one run across the road in front of us on our way to get this tree.
Figures.
From my coffee-drinking chair this morning.
Looks like the dept has provided a response. Whether they are challenged or not, I think there’s a spirit to this amendment that they are capable of understanding, and it allows them flexibility reliant on an implied trust that they get it.
