Montanans how long since your last mule deer

This is the first year in about 6 years I haven't. I love hunting Muley's, but this year was tough. We just couldn't mind a mature one.

Looking for some help in Region 700 Antelope

Where is your hunters orange? a hat doesn't cut it in Montana, 400 square inches is minimal. I would definitely have your kids wearing it too.

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

How many tags will be alocated to residents vs non residents? Not sure how I feel about archery starting in August, most years it's pretty hot. I'm a little worried about spoilage. I will usually skip the beginning of Sept. when it's still 90 degrees.

Idaho Seeks to Limit Scope Turrets and Rangefinders

Couldn't agree more. Once the laws start it just seems to be a domino effect. We be honest with ourselves within our abilities. I have taken longer than 500 yard shots a couple of times, but everything was perfect, wind, good rest, and time, plus I shoot my rifles a lot at distance.

    Inreach - which one

I would check with the search and rescue in whatever state you are in. Here in Montana garmin is the way to go. Our search and rescue have a deal through garmin, and can text with us for more updated information in an emergency. It's the only one they recommend.

    Power bank

I have a goal zero, dark energy and a couple other unbranded ones. And out of thoes I like my dark energy (10000mAh), I like that it keeps a good charge in the cold and is tough as nails. I know people who carry the ankors and they seem to like them.

    Fletching of a different type!

I've never used them, but I was talking to a few people at the TAC shoot in Big Sky a couple of weeks ago who were shooting the FOB ones. They seemed to like them..... I only saw one stuck in a tree.

    Drag or Pack Out?

I will never drag anything again! Packing out a deer on your back is always easier. Pack it all.

Titanium stove & Teepee tent questions

Something that nobody is commenting on is, Teepee placement. I run that exact set up. and one thing to realize is no matter how well you think you did getting the walls low to the ground, the wind will find its way in. Pick your spot well, which we thought we did, down in a low spot in the...

Rifle Elk Caliber and Bullet Choice for 2023

What I'm getting from all this is, it's the craftsman not the tool. Familiarity and skill is key. Great work and good shooting everyone!!

    EOY ‘23 - What Worked, What Didn’t?

I went from a synthetic bag to the down, so right there the packability was night and day. I really loved how around the shoulder area the bag was a bit wider to accommodate movement through the night. Never had any problem with the bag poofing back up after removing it from the pack, it kept...

    EOY ‘23 - What Worked, What Didn’t?

We did a lot of backpack hunting this year in Montana, so some of my choices may differ from other people with us going so minimalist. But I had a few pieces of what I thought was a must have on probably any hunt. 1: Stone Glacier 15 Degree Down Sleeping Bag. Warm, comfortable and very light...
