Shooting from a tripod
That is completely up to you and how you want to hunt. A bipod will most likely be smaller and lighter weight - my "shooting" tripod is north of 4 pounds. However, the versatility of it and how confident I am off of it makes it justifiable for me. Yeah, you could get away with just one tripod...- Black Elk

Shooting from a tripod
I have been shooting exclusively from a tripod since 2021. Ive taken 2 mule deer prone (825 and 450 yards), 1 mule deer standing (250 yards) and 2 elk sitting (600 and 300 yards). I pack two tripods, a fluid head for my spotter/binos and a ball head for my rifle. I don't know if I ever will go...- Black Elk

Shot this bull in CO 1st season this year. I picked up a leftover tag and hunted my good buddies ranch. Opening morning, he stepped out at 300 yards and that was all she wrote. 265 gr ABLR did the job! -

Vortex Razor 13-39x56 Angled

@brockel Will you follow up and let me know how you like the 3200.COM's? I have been eyeing them hard, especially since I can find some 10x42 in some classifieds for under $2k. I use Vortex Razor HD right now so I am assuming they would be a step up optically.. -
How long did it take for your first elk?
I have had 4 cow elk tags and have been lucky enough to fill all 4 tags. All were on private land and was a test of shooting vs hunting. No hunting or stalking had to be done. Regular depredation hunts on friend's land. My first ever bull elk tag was a spike tag in Utah. I spent a total of 6... -
2024 Colorado Draw Results Thread
That is my experience. Last year, dozens of people with 0 points drew a specific tag I put in for year after year. I went in with 1 point and didn’t draw. I am interested to see if it is due to more applications or less permits. Regardless, I’ll get an elk tag and will go hunting!- Black Elk

2024 Utah Draw Results
I was able to arrow this bull after 3 weeks of hunting. This was in a unit that has the archery season all of September. I drew this tag in 2022, drew a LE Antelope with 0 points in 2023, so I threw my name in for a deer tag this year. In other words, not planning on hunting Utah for a while!- Black Elk
