Congrats and well done on your trip. Sounds like everything worked out perfectly with a couple of nice trophies.
Send me a PM if you want help for any future NZ hunts.
Even with the delay in the price increases I decided to drop out, I was really only collecting general deer points. My son and I have enough points in CO, WY, MT and AZ to keep us busy.
There is hunting to the north of where you hunted. Its public (DOC) land and has deer in good numbers, but not great trophy potential but with some luck, and a week of hunting, you should get the same size of deer that you got with Ollie.. And you get to shoot as many as you want at any time of...
Enjoy your training guys, great idea. If I was closer I’d be there!
I do have a hill close to me for training, it’s 450m vert and 6kms so similar and good for hunt training.
Just returned from a stag roar hunt in the same area as 2024. No shooter stags seen but a great place to spend a week interacting with a lot of roaring stags. Here’s a few photos.
I’m in the same situation as you, my son turns 18 next year and I have been buying him points.
My plan is to keep buying points for him for deer and elk but just apply for sheep and goat tags. Very low odds to draw a tag, but figure it's only another few dollars to play that lottery.

Now that would be an interesting hunt.
Seems reasonable to expect a season if the numbers allow. But is there any recreational hunting in China for big game at all?
We are fortunate to have some really cool species / hunts available here. It’s a DIY hunters paradise with no tags or seasons.
Sika are another species that makes a very cool hunt. I went looking for a mature sika stag last week but only found females and a young stags.
Here’s a sika stag from...
Yeah, those increases are too rich for me to keep building points for my son and I.
I’ll keep my 5 general deer points (don’t think they expire) and maybe do a deer hunt if it works out.
