Sheep boots...
No doubt about it, the Middle Fork country is tough stuff! Hard on any boots. I haven't been there for years - spent some time around the Big Horn Crags in 1980-82 (wearing stiff ol' White's)I do some work in the Andes and parts are very similar...but no wild sheep. Good luck on the hunt.- Stan

Were they the lighter variety Meindles? I have used the type like Cabelas sells as Denali Hunters and they hold up well in rough, rocky country (for me). I believe the leather of the Meindles that Cabelas sells is softer than the models directly sold by Meindle. They do get rock cut, but I have...- Stan

Moosie, I have a pair of those same boots for my "light" boots and they are excellent, but I don't use them if I know I am going to be on rough rock all day. Not only for rock cuts, but to avoid a twisted ankle. But, I also know 2 others who use them for hunting in north ID and NW MT and love...- Stan

Paul, At least from Hamilton, you can get into the Salmon and Selway-Bitterroot country faster. Yep, I'm still working down south. Will be hunting goat (AK) and deer (ID) this fall - timing isn't right for elk. I'll be real interested to hear how you do if you hunt the Bargamin Creek area... -

Yikes, a fella can't get rest anywhere. This is he. Big Horny Ram? Hmmmm. What happened to T-falls? Moving to the Bitterroot? You outta become the next Dunc. I like the Salmon and the Clearwater too - but critters in that thar Clearwater can be a might hard to find - or I need to hunt it more... -

Thanks for the info! That helps. My concerns include being able to get away from crowds and outfitters and that sounds good from what you guys say about getting away from roads (my style of hunting anyway) and densities of critters - I can get away from crowds in the Clearwater and Selway... -
