What are your 2026 Outdoor Plans

Only got out one for turkeys. Didn’t punch the tag. Missed Ft Peck. Chores got in the way. Bought a kayak. The seat is hands down, without a doubt, the most uncomfortable I’ve ever sat in. But it catches fish. Pup has to get spaid in August. Upland bird opener just took a back seat. Buddy...

Trump Rescinds Ban on OHV use on Public Lands

Pebble in the valve stem cap caused a slow leak and no monetary damage, just inconvenience.

Trump Rescinds Ban on OHV use on Public Lands

Especially when we have excess energy (until we build more surveillance centers) and no sawmills to process the available timber.

Trump Rescinds Ban on OHV use on Public Lands

Pretty much. The way I understand it, you can now take any vehicle anywhere it can physically go. Probably related to Trump’s desire to push for energy development on public land, but who knows what goes through his head.

Trump Rescinds Ban on OHV use on Public Lands

Hope you folks like ATV cross country during hunting season. “President Trump on Friday rescinded two decades-old executive orders that restricted off-road vehicles on public lands, in a move that could lift prohibitions on their use in most national parks. The first executive order, signed by...

    Night time walleye tips?

If you like beer with your fish fry, yes. In the summer and fall, especially. Big leeches, big minnows, or a crawler. Don’t be afraid to fish 3’ off the bottom, as well. Otherwise, rocky shores and points with depth nearby, big stickbaits and paddletails.

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

That’s just a defeatist attitude. Can’t let the challenges stop you from even trying to make improvements.

    Hunting/Outdoors Mentor Misses

On that note- kids bounce. Adults splat. Glad you learned the lesson in your “bounce” years. I have done something similar to OP in the past, but felt it was more responsible- buy cheap ammo of similar ballistics to practice with, then clean and re-sight with the expensive stuff (if any...

    Honey Hole Found

I mean, it DOES look like pretty decent habitat.

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

I believe that is recruited fawns- not born this year, but the ones that just survived their first winter and are now considered “recruited” into the population.

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

That feels low, for some reason.

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

I rewrote this a couple of times to be less sarcastic and more... constructive. "Overall, recruitment ratios are strong, and this year’s surveys showed 55 fawns per 100 adults, which is only 5 percent below the long-term average." - That is worded far more optimistically than I would have...

    Catch All Fishing Thread

I used to do a lot of it for Ozark smallmouth. Hard part was making sure the backcast was clear, and getting the rods down to go under sycamores in the riffles.

Hunting backpack that works for carry-on

I took my MR Metcalf as a carryon for a backpacking trip. Delta didn’t give me any trouble with it. I’ve also taken a rod tube with me and thrown it behind the other bags in the overhead.

Bought a kayak. Works well enough, but I’ve gotta figure out a better seat.

BHA sues to ensure MT corner crossing

Just one thing to add- 10th circuit found CC was legal in Wyoming. MT is in the 9th, so it is undecided law here. My thoughts are that this is a clever and nefarious administration we are dealing with, and they wouldn’t have pushed this issue in MT if they didn’t have something up their...

ND Trust Lands Completion act is BACK! Oppose this BLM Land Transfer!

Done. I used the form letter, because doing anything now is better than putting it off in pursuit of better (and eventually forgetting it). “Anything worth doing, is worth half-assing.”

    Preferred Upland Loads?

The bird that dominated northern Illinois obsession until roundup and corn subsidies eradicated them.

    Preferred Upland Loads?

No cripples, no misses, just pillows. Opening day saw very close birds, and a new dog meant only choosing the right shots where the dog worked right. Which means ranges which the 7.5 was very effective. And 7.5 is closer in size to a 6 than an 8. It’s not my preferred, but it did work.
