What are your 2026 Outdoor Plans
Only got out one for turkeys. Didn’t punch the tag. Missed Ft Peck. Chores got in the way. Bought a kayak. The seat is hands down, without a doubt, the most uncomfortable I’ve ever sat in. But it catches fish. Pup has to get spaid in August. Upland bird opener just took a back seat. Buddy...- R.K.

Pretty much. The way I understand it, you can now take any vehicle anywhere it can physically go. Probably related to Trump’s desire to push for energy development on public land, but who knows what goes through his head.- R.K.

If you like beer with your fish fry, yes. In the summer and fall, especially. Big leeches, big minnows, or a crawler. Don’t be afraid to fish 3’ off the bottom, as well. Otherwise, rocky shores and points with depth nearby, big stickbaits and paddletails.- R.K.

On that note- kids bounce. Adults splat. Glad you learned the lesson in your “bounce” years. I have done something similar to OP in the past, but felt it was more responsible- buy cheap ammo of similar ballistics to practice with, then clean and re-sight with the expensive stuff (if any...- R.K.

I believe that is recruited fawns- not born this year, but the ones that just survived their first winter and are now considered “recruited” into the population. -

I rewrote this a couple of times to be less sarcastic and more... constructive. "Overall, recruitment ratios are strong, and this year’s surveys showed 55 fawns per 100 adults, which is only 5 percent below the long-term average." - That is worded far more optimistically than I would have... -

Hunting backpack that works for carry-on
I took my MR Metcalf as a carryon for a backpacking trip. Delta didn’t give me any trouble with it. I’ve also taken a rod tube with me and thrown it behind the other bags in the overhead.- R.K.

Just one thing to add- 10th circuit found CC was legal in Wyoming. MT is in the 9th, so it is undecided law here. My thoughts are that this is a clever and nefarious administration we are dealing with, and they wouldn’t have pushed this issue in MT if they didn’t have something up their...- R.K.

No cripples, no misses, just pillows. Opening day saw very close birds, and a new dog meant only choosing the right shots where the dog worked right. Which means ranges which the 7.5 was very effective. And 7.5 is closer in size to a 6 than an 8. It’s not my preferred, but it did work.- R.K.
