I'm Trying to Decide on a New All Around Rifle.

A thread like this is one reason I like HT so much. On the other forums I visit at least 50% of the answers would be those deriding the 270 as some archaic, pointless cartridge. For a non-handloader, I don't think the 270 can be beat. $23.99 ammo can be had anywhere. The 6.5 PRC is a...

    RIP Dash Crofts

I loved the Summer Breeze album. In the mid-70's as a teenager I can remember putting it on the turntable, laying back and absorbing it for hours. Sigh.

    Bark River Knife Closes

Of course, absolutely worth sharing... I was just sort of thinking out loud about my generation. Didn't mean to offend. However, the two could be tied together - Bark River turned to Chinese mfg/steel to stay afloat because sales were slumping, and they were losing money - ie, "There aren't...

    Bark River Knife Closes

Not surprising. There aren't enough baby boomers left buying knives. The world has moved on.

So which caliber, in what rifle ? The 6.5 Creed, the 6.5x55 Swede, or the .257 Roberts

You obviously never read the actual thread, because your post makes it clear you entirely missed what it was about. But at least you're smugly confident posting what you "think" it's about... thumbs up.

So which caliber, in what rifle ? The 6.5 Creed, the 6.5x55 Swede, or the .257 Roberts

Sold it years back. It was a 1989 make with tang safety.

So which caliber, in what rifle ? The 6.5 Creed, the 6.5x55 Swede, or the .257 Roberts

Well, no. The 6.5 CM can use the same bullets as the Swede, just at about 50fps less velocity. Results will be the same. Charles Sheldon took an inordinate amount of Alaskan game (with dozens of grizzlies) with the 6.5x54 Mannlicher at velocities lower than the 6.5 Creedmoor can achieve. Ditto...

So which caliber, in what rifle ? The 6.5 Creed, the 6.5x55 Swede, or the .257 Roberts

Nice to hear that kind of experience! I will say though, I'd be curious for further explanation re your negative comments about the 270 vs. the 6.5x55. What bullets did you see problems with with the 270" Frangible 130's? If so, I can't see how that's a fair comparison to a stout 150 or 160...

So which caliber, in what rifle ? The 6.5 Creed, the 6.5x55 Swede, or the .257 Roberts

I concur, but only with conventional bullets. All-copper completely changes this.

I'm not aware of any Arctic or Antarctic explorers that used the 6.5x55. Nansen, Amundsen, Shackleton, Scott, Perry - none used it. The 6.5x53 was often used by explorers of that era though.

So which caliber, in what rifle ? The 6.5 Creed, the 6.5x55 Swede, or the .257 Roberts

As someone that is 75% Norwegian, I resent the 6.5x55 being called "Swedish." :D The 6.5x55 was actually a joint Norwegian/Swedish development, and if it hadn't been for the Norwegians it would have been a rimmed cartridge (what the Swedes wanted) rather than rimless, which would have been a...

    Iwo Jima Day

My FIL was a Marine (forward gunnery observer), 3 landings, second wave (the worst was the 2nd, as the Japs would let the first wave pile up on the beach, then unleash all hell on the second wave). He fought at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa, and saw a hellacious amount of brutal combat...
