Caliber for 600 yard range
Most modern centerfire rifles can hit at 600y, but that doesn't not mean they do it well. 6mmBR, 6mmcreedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .243 will all do better at 400--600 yards than a .223. Also, a rifle set up to do well at 600y is not really a rifle I would carry into the field for hunting...- VikingsGuy

300 win for Pronghorn
I shot a lope at 254 yds with my AR. Bullet was 62gr ttsx. Front quartering shot. Bullet entered high on the left brisket and lodged against the hide in front of the right rear leg. Bullet was perfectly mushroomed. Lope was DRT. It was a wall hanger. If I figure out how to post pics I will do it. -

Caliber for 600 yard range
Tikka in .260 rem and don't look back. The accuracy will put a smile on your face, great hunting round also -

Range Time?
If you can find ammo, I think a rifle similar in form factor to your big game rifle in .223 is a better practice tool than the often much smaller and lighter zero recoil .22LR, but any practice off the bench is good practice.
