What's your rule of thumb for changing COAL?
If going from 2.73 to 2.8 inches, I'd start at book max. But I live life on the spicy side. Safe answer is to drop one grain from max and work your way up in hot weather. Hornady describes difference between ELD-X and ELD Match
There's been some reports that the 180's don't behave consistently like other ELDMs. And also that newer stock ELDMs aren't as consistent as those from one year+ ago. Safest bet is to go with the new heavy TMKs. Waiting on the 7mm 185’s myself.- Chingon

Inferno maybe? But I wouldn't blame the heater necessarily. This issue is that soft cabs just don't seal well. Any good hard cab enclosure with doors cuts the wind out almost completely. Also, aftermarket heaters really only hit the front seats. I wasted a whole bunch of money buying the wrong...- Chingon

I had an X4 as well that I loved, but the lack of enclosure made it a no-go for cold hunts with the kiddos. Soft sides + aftermarket heater barely took the edge off. With the RMAX, doors are available which would help, but after going through the pain and $$$(!) you're better off just buying...- Chingon

Youth elk rifle?
My Tikka 243 and 22 Creed rained hell on elk this year in NM. Last year it was 6.5 creed doing the same thing. Other than barrel life, I see no reason to go above 243. 223 has virtually infinite barrel life and with the right bullet it only give up a couple hundred yards to the creed version... -

I disagree with carbon. Weights are about the same and they hold heat more. Carbon six orders are about one year out. I have a couple proof and a carbon six barrels on tikkas and will go exclusively back to slim profile steel in the future. Just as light and much cheaper. -

anything with a standard bolt face. I recommend a 6.5 creed or 1:8 twist 243 since those barrels will sell for about $100. Preferred barrel blanks for a 25 Creed prefit. -

Do you just want to shoot out past 1,000 yds, or are you wanting something lethal on big game out to 1,000 yds? No reason to swap any barrels IMO. My 18" Tikka 6.5 Creed is lethal out to 800 yds at my altitude with reloads. Factory ammo is definitely enough to shoot out to 1,000 yds. This is... -
