I've always liked and had good luck with the Talley lightweight rings. I think having the one piece makes things easier and there are fewer points of failure. The Leupold Backcountry rings look sweet too.
Still hunting thick timber is tough, but I've had success moving between smaller scale broken country. Basically a move and glass strategy. You don't sit in one area very long, but pick a few areas to hit during the day and move slowly between them glassing along the way.
Hey all, I'm thinking of going suppressed at some point. I have a Bergara with a carbon barrel and it is 24". The reason I haven't gotten a suppressor yet is because of the increased length and weight. Ideally I'd go to 21" or 20" and have a 6" suppressor. Has anyone cut a carbon barrel? Is it...
Yea true, maybe I still think there is a shred of hope that our government would ever do anything to actually help Americans, but that's probably me being naive. Here's to higher gas prices!
So why aren't we bombing Russia or China or North Korea? The talking point about 'we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud' is old news. It worked in the past, but Americans aren't buying it anymore. Our own intelligence said Iran was nowhere close to getting a nuke. Israel said they...
Wind and solar are huge issues - seemingly more so solar, but it depends. Solar arrays have to have perimeter fencing by law and that precludes any animal moving through the area, which is direct habitat loss. A study by Hall Sawyer found that animals use the area surrounding the solar farm less...
I don't have contempt for Israel. I'd do the same thing if I were them - try to get the United States to do whatever they want us to do. My problem comes with our leaders who are allowing Netanyahu to dictate our foreign policy. Rubio said it as clear as day yesterday - we knew Israel was going...
I thought we took out their nuclear program last June? Trump said,
"Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat," Trump said. "Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear...
I don't know a lot about Pearce, but am watching the hearing now and many of the Senators are expressing deep concern for sell off of public land, which is great to see. BTW, anyone know the average age of this committee?? If I didn't know any better it could be taking place at a nursing home!
Depends. If I'm trying to make it to a certain spot by first light I'll go in the dark, but I'll make noise and chat to myself hiking in knowing that I'm not planning on hunting that area.
There are a handful of areas in the western part of the state you should be able to draw with ten points. Lots of public land too. Go to the Wyoming antelope hunt map and start clicking on units - that should tell you the draw odds.
I had that same generation metcalf and I could never quirte get it right. I sold it for a Stone Glacier Col 4800. I eventually sold that for the Stone Glacier solo 3600 which fits my style of hunting a little better (3-4 day trips/day hunts). I like having the smallest pack I can get away with...
I don't know where you are, but in this winter you likely aren't stressing them. That said, it is easier just to say it's off limits during the winter rather than pushing it. Mule deer especially have a very high fidelity to their winter range and may die before they go other places (in extreme...
Seems pretty similar to most states. You may see a lot of camps and people buzzing around on four wheelers, but once you get off the beaten path a little bit you can find solitude. If you can find a WY resident to take you into the Wilderness that can help.
