Hire an outfitter or not?

It might change some things to be able to relocate some of these data centers popping up to places like Coalstrip and Gillette. Wouldn't have to build big transmission lines thousands of miles to get the electricity to where it needs to get or haul the coal thousands of miles before you burn...- npaden

Food debate: jerky dryness edition
The other big difference I see in jerky is whether you cut it with the grain or against the grain. I prefer it to be against the grain so when you bite it the piece breaks off easily. Fierce or Christensen Arms?
Nothing that I can see that indicates that. I didn't see anything that excluded magnum rifles and nothing in the box when I received mine indicated anything differently. Hopefully my suppressor gets approved soon and I can actually get out and shoot mine and find out. -
What are your 2026 Outdoor Plans
After a crazy 2025 hunting year I don't have anything "planned" in 2026 but a few crazy draw odds could change it. Already applied in Alaska, about to in Wyoming and Arizona, then New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming and Arizona again. Might apply for Idaho or Montana but probably...- npaden

What is the wait time going to be for suppressor approval starting 1/1/2026?
Called and hassled the local gun shop that has had my suppressors for several weeks now as the status was still showing "Ready to Prepare" under submission. After being a little rude (I was a little rude not them) they said they would get them submitted today and sure enough they are now... -

It’s not terribly hard. Not sure what state you are in, but you may need an attorney to file your articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State. Most labor intensive thing is the 1023 application to get your tax exempt status with the IRS. I bet it took me 4 or 5 hours to get it...- npaden

Private pilot's license
My brother was a commercial airline pilot (he just retired) and owns his own plane outright and still has a hard time justifying bothering to fly his personal plane much if at all. He has it hangered with a friend who flies it regularly (I think commercially) and does the annuals on it for free...- npaden

Is chasing Wyoming permits worth it?
There is always a chance.... I think that's where they get us. The few states where there truly isn't a chance are all shifting to models where they are at least giving people a chance. It might be less than 1% for the good tags, but there is a chance. For a while Wyoming actually had it...- npaden

I called and checked with the local kiosk place again this morning. Still showing on Silencer Shop as "Ready to Prepare". Local shop said they have been trying but have just gotten 1 eform to go through since January 1st. I mentioned reading online that several places were resorting to... -
E- scouting question: are these logging roads?
That's what most people are talking about. Closed roads that are still somewhat passable with grass and clover growing along the sides seems to be a good place to look for bears in the spring. Growing up that's pretty much how we hunted bears, just walking quietly along closed logging roads...- npaden

Not looking especially good. Not 100% sure what's exactly happening but on my submission with Silencer Shop it is showing that filing the eform4 is "ready to prepare" and that I should contact my local dealer. Called them and they said they have the suppressors already but are waiting for... -
