Right there with you. I’m the guy that misses on an extra doe tag with draw odds in the 80+% range

    2024 Colorado Draw Results Thread

No dice for antelope. I put the doe muzzleloader tag as a second choice with a point first and didn't get it. I drew it as a second choice last year. Tags in my corner of the state are getting harder to draw with the winter kills in the NW of the state and those guys coming down here to hunt...

Was my experience normal...or did I somehow F&#K up?

It sounds like you put a tremendous amount of effort into your hunt, and it's frustrating when things don't go as planned, especially after hearing about others' success in the same area. It's not uncommon for hunting experiences to vary widely, even within the same unit or area.

2024 - Season of Good Fortune and Financial Ruin

I turned in my Utah antlerless application. I had a small chance at a cow elk tag and another small chance at a doe pronghorn tag. Shortly after the Utah antlerless application period closed, I received an email informing me that I'd drawn an archery pronghorn tag in a pretty good unit in the...

Was my experience normal...or did I somehow F&#K up?

Maybe I read this post too fast but I don’t recall seeing the word “water” even once. Anytime I’m lope hunting, that’s the first thing I focus on. Finding water, preferably running streams. If I didn’t find any at first, I’d begin checking the more remote drainages further into the hunt. And...

    Ranging while crawling/stalking

Did the same thing the other weekend on a pronghorn.. snuck in so perfect, antelope in a perfect little crevasse… could see their backs feeding in the cut and I’d peek up to range, only getting the laser to hit the grass between us. I knew they were decently close but I didn’t want to just send...

Never seen anything like that, what raptor made that?

Compounds- How old is too old?

I like hearing the stories of other people using ~20 year old bows. I think bows made a huge leap in the very late 1990’s and then just incremental gains in materials and geometry tweaks since then. My 1st compound bow was a Bear Whitetail Hunter which I killed my 1st bow doe with. I now wish...

How many deer can you kill in your home state?

North dakota 1 otc statewide archery buck or doe whitetail or mule deer. " they had restrictions years past on MD doe" Lottery 1 rifle tag need to specify buck or doe and what species. Most mule deer buck tags take 5-8 years to draw. Whitetail bucks depending on unit 1-5 years. Lottery 1...

    Montana pronghorn draw

I did, and I remember going to the breaks with a buck tag in my pocket every year and usually with 2 or 3 surplus pronghorn doe tags. I'm no biologist, but I wonder how much that sort of liberal harvest from 20 years ago brought us to where we are today. Nowadays in some of the okayer districts...

Critique my WY Pronghorn NON-resident tag application

So, I don't really know what I am doing and I only have two preference points for a buck antelope in WY. I don't care about a trophy, I'd just like a unit with lots of lope and some stalking/shot opportunities. Since I figure I don't have good odds of drawing a good unit with my two points...

    Five antelope, seven days

We quick loaded up the animal, and then cooked a late lunch. At this point it’s 2 PM and we have a 45-min drive to get back to the nearest huntable antelope that we know of. Once we arrive we stop and glass, repeat and repeat, hoping to find something on public. Nate eventually picks out a...

    August of the Antelope

Dad and I grabbed some breakfast in celebration. By then, I was tired to the point of delirium after the rough night I'd experienced, and dying for a shower and a nap. We returned to the motel and crashed for much of the afternoon. After waking, we took some time to explore a little bit and...

Extreme hunting pressure in region 7.

Elk changed everything for R7. Resident guys would draw a trophy elk tag and come out with 2 or 3 buddies, each with at least a buck tag but usually would also buy the 2 additional mule deer doe tags, and would stack up the bed of a truck with deer on their way back to wherever they came from...

How many deer can you kill in your home state?

We should form a HT support group for Western resident deer hunters. We’ll have our annual rendezvous in ANY SOUTHEASTERN STATE and kill 25 deer a day.

    Doe Antelope Caliber

Hey Folks, I drew a doe antelope tag in Northeast Utah after 6 years of applying. This is my first antelope hunt ever and I am concerned that my 7mm Rem. Mag will be a little too much gun for Doe antelope. Do you agree? What's your thoughts on using a 223 for hunting doe antelope, is that too...
