Ha, early last year I was selling Canada silver 1 oz wildlife coins on here in the classifieds for $35. Wish I hadn't, lol! Oh well, buyer's happy!

    Elk….Bow or Muzzleloader

I think this is a great comment to reflect on just how different hunting elk and deer can be. Deer hunting is all about stealth and finding an advantage. Archery can be viewed sometimes as giving up that advantage. Archery hunting for elk in the rut, however, puts you in the position of...

    Elk….Bow or Muzzleloader

If you are experienced bowhunters, I think that would be the way to go. Up close and personal is how Sept elk were made to be hunted! Nothing like it. You do have to be OK with possibly seeing a bull out at 80, 90, 100 and knowing if you had a muzzy, it coulda been over. But I think bowhunters...

    Lash345 is a scammer!

I'm confused. Was it just the request for friends and family that upset you or were you actually scammed in the end? I have asked for friends and family payments from people. One benefit is that it protects the seller from a scammy BUYER claiming they didn't get something when they did (never...

Ran its course, now in the weeds.

I skipped to the end here, but still thinking of the original question. I recently did the "dumb" thing too and paid off my ~4% mortgage that I had since around 2010. Stress-wise, one of the better things I ever did and it simplifies financial planning elsewhere and provides peace of mind if...

    Swift Sciroccoll Bullets

Was loaded in the most accurate factory ammo in my 7mm and also good in my 6.5. Factory ammo with this bullet in my particular 270 didn't group. I've taken a muley and pronghorn with them. Good bullets, expand well, and retain weight. hunt them with confidence for just about any game if they...

Comment on Wetlands Protections by January 5th

From SWS: To Society of Wetland Scientists Members, This memo is a summary of the United States proposed rule revising the regulations defining the scope of waters covered under the federal Clean Water Act. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of the Army...

Comment on Wetlands Protections by January 5th

It's worthwhile to knowledgeably comment (see my next post on summary) but there is nothing stopping a state or often even a county or municipality from regulating wetlands more strictly than the fed govt, and would be a potentially far more effective use of time and money lobbying for increased...

    North Ohio whitetail?

Lots of parks as said might provide opportunity. There are some very big whitetail deer in Ohio, and lots of public forest in places further south. If you like hunting big fox squirrels, OH is your place too! Some good fishing for steelhead, salmon, trout, walleye, perch, in NE Ohio too.

    OnX accuracy

And another thing, comparing a point taken by one device to a point taken by another device is meaningless unless you are comparing data in the same system or using a proper conversion. You can set this on your GPS and see what I mean. For example, if you take a point in WGS84 and plot it...

    OnX accuracy

That last one is always misunderstood. Photo basemaps have all been cut and rendered and or stretched to some degree to be accurately geo referenced based on whatever datum/coordinate systems and projections are in use. They are often damn good. But it's easy to see significant differences from...

Another One Bites The Dust... So long Kuiu

So just another wealthy A hole showing their true colors and *new* KUIU will sadly be funding his next attempt.

    Afraid of the dark??

Thank you for saying this. I had this happen when I was hiking in to a deer spot as a late teen / young twentysomething. Blood curdling screaming sounded like a woman being killed violently about 50 yards ahead of me in the dark. Almost like "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" in the most loud, high pitched and...

    Afraid of the dark??

Things can be scary in the dark that might not be so serious seeming in the light of day. It's not a deep woods story but I was def scared in Idaho one year, tent camping with two buddies off the side of a dead end FS road. At about 3 in the morning, I woke when I heard an ATV or similar vehicle...

How far do you stay upwind of elk?

Hard to say but killed close (archery 11yards, and under 30) with consistent bad wind, had two like that that came in unabated. That said, no telling how many I spooked near and far, vast majority of encounters end that way it seems!

How far do you stay upwind of elk?

I have seen some pretty dumb elk on occasion. Shot 1 or two (cows) that ignored my wind.

How far do you stay upwind of elk?

So how does one explain when an elk or a deer comes within 30 yards, or closer, with wind swirling or in their face and they act like, "oh well". Pressured vs unpressured? Darwin award? Animals can be very inconsistent in their reaction to human scent I've found.

    Picking a CO unit

I don't see any need for a service. Data is all there and free from CO. Never count on a "fluke" draw from CO, but you might be one of the lucky ones at the final point level in a given year. The only mystery CO draw has left (until 2028, with a random element thrown in) is how many more points...
