It is a great hunt, I have done a bull and a cow hunt both on the King Ranch. Currently impatiently waiting on the bull to come back from the taxidermist.

Just got in from a 3 mile hike with a 45# pack in Texas (101 with a feels like of 111). We are sea level basically and I can't simulate the elevation but the heat and humidity will try to break your spirits for sure.
This is all great advice that I appreciate. I will be making my first trip up there here in a month. Looking forward to the beauty of the mountains, and except to hang my tags in a frame next to several great photos I take while I am there. Of course I would love to bring home an animal but...
Thank you this is the exact information I was looking for. I am in the exact same boat as the original post, I actually may be more excited for the opportunity for a bear than the mule deer. I think we are going to be hanging out in 36A so maybe a little different.
