I didn't know they circled back for a shot consistently to hunt them like that...like a rabbit? I'm in VA and plenty familiar with dee hounds, but didn't know you could hunt coyote like that. Where can I learn a little more about that? We have plenty of yotes...
Same here in VA. Always unloaded climbing into stands or on the rare situation the footing wasn't sure. Thinking back on deer that I've managed to walk up on, maybe I could have cycled one into the chamber while shouldering the gun....maybe I will change going forward.
Hi everybody, new here from VA.
Don't worry, I won't be out crowding the public land anytime soon. I finally went out west on vacation and am just in the dreaming phase...
Honestly, I'm mostly here because Google led me to a @VAspeedgoat post in the muzzleloader forum about a gunsmith here...
I don't have one, but usually a longer barrel doesn't necessarily mean a tight group. You should get a little extra velocity, though, to stretch your maximum "point and shoot" range out a little.
My grandfather told me he always used a 30-06 until he tried a .243 when he was about 35 years old. Said he shot a deer with it and it was just as dead as if he used the 06. He always used the .243 when I was coming along and I didn't know it was considered "not enough" until I was in my 20's...
Thank you, Hankins threads out the chamber for a breech plug and has a reputation for good work.
I'm specifically interested in a conversion where a .45-70 case is primed, loaded with powder, and used like a firestick cartridge as was mentioned earlier is this thread.
New here and hate to resurrect an old thread but it doesn't look like I can send PMs. I live in VA and am really interested in getting in touch with the gunsmith doing these 45-70 conversions @VAspeedgoat mentioned. If anybody can point me in that direction, please let me know. Thanks!
