New 30-06. Thinking about trying copper.

....and another for the 150 TTSX. The all-copper bullets need speed to help them open up. I've used that bullet for nearly two decades in my '06, and have taken a bunch of elk and deer with it.

WTB - Mec 9000 or Grabber shotshell reloader

As the subject states, I'm looking for either of these progressive shotshell reloaders in 12 gauge. There has to be a few of them out there collecting dust. I can certainly put one into service again. Thanks!

Old truck appreciation (and high mileage)

Thanks! They're fun to have, aren't they? It is crazy seeing them going for well over $50k.

Old truck appreciation (and high mileage)

My '74 Bronco that doesn't qualify for the high mileage aspect of this thread. It has 108,000 miles on it, and it doesn't burn a bit of oil. I've done my best to keep it going, by keeping up on the maintenance. Unlike today's computerized rigs, I can actually work on this engine. I love this...

    Winchester fail safe bullets

I also used them in a .270 in the 90's. I took a fair number of elk with them, and they worked very well. I was bummed when Winchester stopped making that loaded ammo.

    WTB - Kimber Montana .308

If anyone has a Kimber Montana .308 with the non-threaded barrel that they're looking to sell, I would be interested in picking one up. Shoot me a PM if you do. Thanks folks!

What do you wear for hearing protection while big game hunting?

I wear SoundGear custom electronic hearing protection for all of my hunting. They're spendy but I don't need any additional hearing loss. They have adjustable volume and there are four settings to cut out the wind, etc. They work great and I never have to worry about putting in protection.

    Extreme velocity monos.

Best I could get with a 120 gr. TTSX was a little shy of 3000 fps. I loaded the 120 gr. HH for my 7mm-08. In my ladder test, the first node was at 3000. I found the second node right at 3200 fps, without pressure signs.

    Trade or sell Components.

I'm looking for pound of Ramshot Big Game powder if anyone has any they'd be willing to sell. I'm in Helena, MT and would be willing to travel a couple of hours for some. Thanks!

    7mm Barnes

I've used the 120 gr. Barnes TTSX in my 7mm-08 for years, and I've taken a lot of elk and deer with it. I've never had one go further than 50 yards. I found great accuracy when it's loaded with RL-15.

    Boss shotshells

It is a full load of copper-plated bismuth. One of my hunting partners uses them exclusively and he loves them. I'll probably pick some up once I've gone through the 5# bottle of bismuth I have for reloading.

    MT upland opener reports

I walked the mountains for a few hours this week and was pleasantly surprised. The dog and I saw 21 birds and were able to reduce two to possession. That's a fine day in my book!

    Hearing Protection

I've had the Soundgear electronic hearing protection devices for about five years now. They run about $1,000 and they work really well. There are four different settings and I love that you can essentially cancel the wind sounds with one of them. I use them for both upland birds and big game...

    Barnes TTSX

Perfect combination, IMHO. I've taken a lot of big game with that pairing, before I was stupid and sold a great rifle. Makes me miss my .270

    7mm-08 ttsx 150gr

I've taken a whole bunch of elk with my 7mm-08, loaded with 120 gr. TTSX. It's a great bullet and plenty capable. The 140 gr. would be fine too; I just find the 7mm-08 and the 120 gr. TTSX go together quite well.
