Is chasing Wyoming permits worth it?

I just want to hunt and not have to knock on lot of doors. I’ve alway been a meat hunter so I suppose I’d burn my points on a cow. Never been out west and could use it as a learning trip. Definitely need to relearn how Wyoming works.

So I have 2 elk points now. How many do I need?

    OnX accuracy

It’s all depends on how good the parcel data is and the local control. And whether the parcel data has been adjusted to the local control. I work of the local county land survey dept. my job is to maintain or re establish the section and quarter section corners. In areas were the corners are...

Minimum Elk Caliber. what do you think it is.

I would say I’d go as low as 7mm08 but I’d only go as high as 30-06. Not going to beat myself up and go bigger. Both with the correct bullet will work well to 400yds and that the range I would like to stay in. I get the small cartridge craze right now. The data is there. From what I’ve...

    Is it possible?

I probably would run the 175s. I’m sure it would be pretty anemic but can be done.

    Is it possible?

First off, the 7mm08 is a fantastic cartridge. Second, go as low weight as you like. As far as 175gr? If you have the twist and the mag length to support it send it.

rifle for beginner/youth- bolt? single shot? other?

100% get what what you say about hunting with youth hunters and follow up shots. I agree take all the shots needed but the shots and deer taken I mentioned previously where made by 37-40 year old hunters in my camp. Also my camp of 5 hunters including me is up to 5 deer so far this season and I...

The classic magnums - will they see a renaissance?

I’m my neck of the woods if you find the PRCs on the shelf it’s going to be the precision hunter and that’s it. I’ve actually noticed the 6.5 creedmoor seems to be disappearing. Fewer and fewer ammunition offering available at the LGSs. I’m talking less than the 7mm08 or 300win. Which makes...

    Which one would you shoot?

    Literally the first I saw.

rifle for beginner/youth- bolt? single shot? other?

My wife used hers this weekend and took a small buck. 95gr partition preformed well. That rifle could literally be a forever deer rifle.

rifle for beginner/youth- bolt? single shot? other?

I’ve thought about this topic a quite bit over the last year or so, because I too have nephews and nieces coming of age soon. I really like the looks of the CVA scouts and my only concern with starting kids out with a hammered rifle is the possibility hammer slipping when decocking. I really...

    Compact rifle opinions

I’ll agree with you about Remington being garbage. In terms of tikka I’d say you are getting a really excellent rifle for the price. I’m curious of the reasons sako is better the tikka in your opinion.

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

I have updates. Beaver ponds, back waters and rivers with rice edge froze last night. It’s big water or hang it up time here in northern MN.

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

I’m 6weeks into my season and 10miles south of the border! Let me shoot them for a minute! 🤣. I need two more mornings of shooting them and then I’ll send them. I grab the deer rifle for Saturday.

    Waterfowl, let’s see them!

I’ve been hunting for 10years in northern MN and this last weekend I found the spot and the ducks are here! I got my first band! Season is almost over and waters are locking up.
