So I have two rifles in the safe that never get shot. I am looking to do some kind of build with one or both of the actions. First is a Howa Mountain Alpine in 308. Thinking about a light deer/sheep gun without changing much so 260 AI, 7mm08, 7mm08 AI etc. Something that can get a 127g LRX... -

VX Freedom vs VX3HD vs VX5HD
I have a 3i on a lightweight 308 that is clear, light, and no frills (not sure if they still make them). The vx5 HD I got from schmalts blows it away in clarity, and low light performance. Agree with the over 40 thing. I'm pushing 50 so maybe that's why I love the 5 -

My 11 yo old is about 65 lbs. He shoots lights out with his .223. Tried the 7mm-08 with Hornady custom lite 120 g SST's as he has antelope and deer tags for this year. I think the noise from the 20" barrel is what threw him off. Have a 6.5 Grendel on the way in the Howa mini action. -

Well, I was ultimately unsuccessful in 16c this year. Saw some big bulls while scouting (mostly on Cooney Prairie), but couldn't locate them once the season started. Hunted high in the wilderness, and low out on the flats North of 59. Had a cow broadside at 30 yards on the 2nd morning by Elmo... -

Base Camp Tent Options For a Family of 4
We use an elk mountain 16' Yukon bell tent. With the disco cots and a wood stove, it easily fits my family of six. They use some kind of synthetic canvas that's supposed to be more resistant to moisture. I'm in new mexico, so that's not really an issue here. -

Blind Squirrel
First year as a NM resident, and I drew 16c first archery elk. It will be my first elk hunt ever. I've been e-scouting, and have a couple dozen (lol) spots to check out. I plan to get down there at least twice in the summer to get boots on the ground. I am also waiting to hear back from the elk... -
