I hate taking care of a yard. I planted almost my entire property in native wildflowers. I get a satisfaction walking through them that I wouldn’t get walking across the nicest lawn. A badger moved in last year and makes a nice neighbor. Mowing my actual lawn takes about 10-15 minutes per week.
My goal in Utah was always to draw a low-tier (relative to Utah) random elk tag as soon as I could and then be out. It would be tough to swallow paying $2k now for a mediocre hunt with these changes. But, the odds aren’t hardly worth playing the game for a mid-upper level tag there. I didn’t...
Some of them are winning. I know I’m slowly exiting this game. Not a complaint, just an observation. I’ve made some great memories and will continue to do so, just more in my home state going forward.
After a week of nothing, I got two big beavers last night for my highway department job. They must have been making their way back after the dam was torn out. I wouldn’t mind a couple more but wouldn’t be surprised if this is it.
I had the opportunity to release a front-foot caught snapping...
I just picked up a nuisance beaver job for the MN Department of Transportation. Of course, they tore out the dam last week and word on the street is that the neighbor kid has been shooting at them. I suspect it won’t be easy, but it’ll be nice making a bit of money. Glad to get my foot in the...
Who is justifying their jobs? I doubt a single person who will be charged with enforcing this is happy about it.
Anyone smart enough to figure out the hunting regulations for their area can surely determine what county they are hunting in, in about 30 seconds, with zero difficulty.
It’s...
Every slug barrel I’ve tried has been a complete nightmare. Maybe I’m too picky, but I’ve never been able to get groups that I’m comfortable hunting with at any range, let alone 150 yards. I wish I’d have saved myself the frustration and money and just got a Savage 220 right away. They are the...
I tend to disagree. Make it too easy and it dwindles. Hunting is supposed to be a challenge with a slight chance of a reward if you do things right and get a little lucky. I don’t think the change from shotguns to rifles is going to be the deal-breaker, though. My Savage 220 really isn’t much...
The biggest problem I see with this is that it has me wanting to buy a .243 with a suppressor for the kiddos now, and I don’t really want to spend the money.
For quite a few years I’ve applied for everything in Utah. I forgot about the increases and almost tipped over when I saw the prices this year. I backed down to elk only this year and put in for a really good tag that I could maybe try justifying the price for. I had the license anyways, so cost...
First year in 12 years that I didn’t apply in NM. Can’t do two trips and I’m helping my dad with an AZ hunt. I did put in for a long-shot (is there any other kind with only 12 points) Utah tag, though.
