I'm looking at this cartridge for a solid range and varmint rifle. I probably won't be able to break the bank (<$1000), so I'm considering affordable, out-of-the-box shooter. Threaded barrel would be a plus. Lot's of options fit these criteria: the Howa 1500, Remington 700, CVA Cascade, etc...
I've been mulling over that one quite a bit too. I think most likely. Landowner mentioned that they thought deer numbers were down quite a bit this year. Whether that's CWD-related, I have no clue. But 2/3 deer we took from there had CWD, which isn't encouraging.
OP here.. the responses to this have been lively, but I appreciate everyone's input. I read each of these responses and talked to friends asking them the same question. I wasn't expecting to feel so conflicted on what to do.
I decided against consuming the animal. My reasoning is a little...
what's concerning is that of the three deer my friend and I took that day, two tested positive. The landowner didn't think CWD had reached their neck of the woods. Will be interesting to see how their deer population fares over the next few years
Just curious what others have done. I recently started submitting my animals for CWD testing. Who knows, maybe I've consumed a CWD-positive animal before but never knew. Ignorance is bliss, I guess?
My MT whitetail test result is pending as "Suspect":
"Suspect/Positive: Your animal receives a...
I was curious myself about the Yellowstone mortality and found this in a different article:
"In Idaho, 30 of the 35 animals survived through the second year of reintroductions. In Yellowstone, 22 of the 31 animals survived through the second year of reintroductions," the plan reads. "Causes of...
This is 100% true. Don't get me wrong, I'm fortunate to have some things in life I am passionate about, but being a father and seeing my kids grow is the most significant thing I've ever been part of. Bar none.
My wife and I were in similar shoes - together for nearly a decade and on the fence...
A few years ago when my wife was pregnant with our first, we were watching a storm from under our covered porch when lightning struck our neighbor's house maybe 20 feet away. Scared us to death - I take electric storms a little more seriously now :ROFLMAO: my wife said our daughter squirmed...
I had good luck with the 40 vol peroxide and powdered whitener as well. Funny story- I walked into a Sally beauty supply store with my skull bleaching shopping list. I felt and probably looked a little lost and out of place in there, so I asked the teenager working there where I could find...
death is a hard thing to process. Last year we watched a family of great horned owls rear two owlets. It was a joy for our daughter (then 2 1/2 years old) to see. Later that summer we found one of the owlets dead near home. My daughter was there when we found it. It was tough watching her...
