I hate to laugh at this guy but i am...he thinks all the money is "pro wolf" as he makes money and gets on the Joe Rogan show being "anti-wolf". Money is on both sides of this issue to fight it for a long time. Fact is...a non-public land/wildlife user has just as much of a say as a public...- MattK

You don't seem like the type that would let your dog roam around in a field full of sheep and cattle so i doubt he would have gotten your dog. I had a lab that got loose from my house when it was young. A rancher brought it back and let me know i was really lucky but i wouldn't be lucky twice...- MattK

I didn't talk to him yesterday...i spoke to him last year prior to hunting season. I also wrote his top end estimate...which it was...which is why he gave a 25% kill rate. Also, the percentage is a bit higher due to non-hunting or trapping deaths...if you want to add more jello. Name another...- MattK

The biologist's estimate was around 1100 wolves based on actual count and population estimates. He said that at the top end assuming a lot of wolves were hiding, the number would be 1500. If they are already there...then it's not re-introduction. It's bolstering the existing population. If it's like MT, there's a good chance they will be allowed to hunt them quicker due to the extra wolves being brought in. They will have a connected population with WY and also ID and MT. Correct...never hunted in Oregon. There's been 2 wolf attacks on humans in the lower 48...so not a lot of risk to humans. If you live in an area that you've tracked wolves near your house...i would probably keep pretty good track of my kids as well as my dog. That's what good owners/ parents...- MattK

His name was Jay Meyer...he taught elementary school for 25 years according to the article I just read. I only met him a couple times. I think he just recently retired (within the past 5-6 years).- MattK

I'm good with wolf hunting and controlling their population but i have little to no sympathy for a guy who has no idea where his dog is and the dog is killed. I spoke to a MT wolf biologist...interesting guy to talk to. The numbers of wolves aren't as high as people think. I believe his top end estimate was 1500 in MT. Bears are about 10-15 times that and mt lions are 5-6 times that. But wolves by far do the most damage (sarcasm). The biologist...- MattK
