Thank you all for all the info! After several pm’s and posts I think I’m going to try a different unit. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 other units. Going to do some homework over the next couple weeks and see if I can find other post on unit 511,4, and 74.- Mallard_militia

Hey all, I’ve got 4 points and looking at 3rd-4th rifle season in Unit 3 near Craig. I’m not looking for a monster but a solid 4x4 buck. I see there are lots of roads throughout most of the public land. My question is are you able to get off the road and find older bucks in drainages/draws...- Mallard_militia

Be grateful for what you have. At least you can hunt elk in your state every year. I’m not saying they are perfect nor defending them giving tags to guides and land owners. There is obvious corruption. My money hopefully will be used for access yes and other access projects as well.- Mallard_militia

Hey I didn’t mean to start a fight on here. I appreciate what you two have said so far. I need to refine my question. I will get on FWP. I need to look at tag and harvest ratios. I come from a state that I will never hunt elk in that is why. Not to mention the money should go to a good cause. I have received great advice from other residents in other states. I guess when they say Montana residents are the least helpful/friendly towards non residents they are accurate in...- Mallard_militia

UPDATE** Headed home with with a cow calf. Saw a few bulls in the caribou creek/ horseshoe creek area. Ran into several hunters. We saw a cow with a calf right at dark Monday night. The next morning a hunter killed a cow about 1.5 miles from where we saw the cow and calf. Wondering if it was the...- Mallard_militia

Just adding to this board. My wife and I drew this tag with my brother and a family friend this year. We all had success opening weekend. There are tons of sections of BLM and state land to look at.
