    Podcast on wounding

I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but I'm definitely going to! I can say that after our first full year of tracking, I was shocked at the number of calls I received in September...over 80 calls, and over 100 archery calls throughout the hunting season. I kept pretty good...

    Podcast on wounding

And a lot of the deer are in CRPs or crop fields...a dog can find a deer in a standing corn field in just a few minutes, where a hunter and his buddies can look all day if there isn't a blood trail to follow!

    Annoying Yard Bucks Anyone?

So are the grill and the smoker that are on the deck just out of the picture... :ROFLMAO:

    Elk .... Let's see them!!!

This is our first season of tracking elk, and I have only received one call for a cow, about 15 for bulls. My dog had a really hard time with the cow, as there were 40+ other cows with it, and only a few drops of blood. That track didn't result in a recovery, but she did find two deer that had...

    Wish Me Luck, Please

That's one proud pupper right there🤩!! Congratulations on the nice buck, and on calling in a dog before resorting to grid searching!

A story, an outcome, and maybe a change of direction

I don't charge, but tips/gas money/dog treats/baked goods, (and of course deer legs for training!) are always happily accepted😊! The majority of trackers in this area don't charge, but there are a lot of trackers in the Midwest and eastern states who track for a living. It's just up to the...

But hopefully reading this will help another hunter in the future! So sorry about your lost elk.

A story, an outcome, and maybe a change of direction

Agree! Many hunters aren't aware that tracking dogs for game recovery are legal in Wyoming now. Of course, if you packed for two days into the Wilderness Area, calling a dog is probably not an option, but if you can get to cell service, it's always worth it to call a tracker in your area and at...

    1st elk hunt/I need a psychiatrist

So many hunters still think it's illegal! I think there are only 4 states now where tracking with a dog is illegal - AZ, CA, NV, and OR. WA just legalized it this year. Each state has different rules, and some states require the tracker to have a permit (CO requires a permit). That's why I'm...

    1st elk hunt/I need a psychiatrist

I'm so sorry to hear about you losing your elk! I know it's too late for your trip, but there are a lot of people following your thread, so hopefully it will help someone else...if you lose blood, call for a tracking dog before grid searching. Don't save using a tracking dog as the LAST resort...

    Blood tracking dog

I think back East they use more baying hounds for tracking. I'm in Wyoming, and I can't imagine showing up for a track with a baying or barking dog...I've been called for many tracks on private land, and usually the first question I'm asked by the landowner is if my dog tracks silently. With...
