    New Zealand Hunting Invasive Species

An alternate title for this article could have been, "Hunting still controversial; urban / rural divide persists". It's very different there. Long ago and far away now, I did a study abroad in college in NZ, and a lot of traveling / backpacking throughout both islands. At one point ended up...

    Ollin digiscope adapter

I've had my Ollin now for a couple weeks and can say this is the best phone > spotting scope adapter I've come across. Really happy with it--used it this last weekend at the range in conjunction with my Vortex Razor HD 85mm and it was just great. Way better than my old PhoneSkope.

Montana HD 455 - Beartooth WMA

Howdy folks. Older thread I know, but I drew the 455-20 permit for elk this fall, and thought I'd put a note here to see if anyone on HT has had this permit as well the last couple of years? I'd like to connect with you if so and ask a few questions of you. I am planning on a later season rifle...

Getting started hunting or fishing $$$

I'll chip in my $.02 here. I think what kind of hunting a new person wants to do plays a role in startup cost. I think it's a fair statement that a day hunt for, say, an antelope or maybe a whitetail where you are not in the mountains, is different than setting yourself the goal of pursuing...

Break open your first aid kits for me

I spent a bunch of time last week rebuilding my first aid kits in preparation for hunting season. I am curious to hear from others on this forum what their kits consist of. At one time, I was an EMT, so I tend to have a fair amount of stuff, between my backpack and the truck. I have three kits...

    Personal Locator

warmer, Was in your same situation a few years ago. Wife worried and unhappy I was solo hunting and out of cell service while doing so. Bought an inReach/wife doesn't worry/wife is happy/solo hunting no longer a source of disagreement. If I have to spend $$$ and schlep along another device so...

    Montana mule deer

What tjones said. Montana has pushed its chips in on providing opportunity above all else. Opportunity ≠ sound biology. Opportunity ≠ mature deer.

    Lets talk spike camp location

Randy has a video on how he sets up camp. Title is "Elk Camp" but perhaps will apply for you?

Talk me out of bumping elk!

IMHO some good advice there about other hunters/escape routes from GrantK. I knew some older hunters who were very successful in an area in MT with high hunter pressure. They would sit the same little spot year after year, more often than not, eventually an elk would go by trying to get away...

Of Interest to Anyone Who Spends Time in Bear Country

First, this is really interesting and thank you ShortAction for sharing it. FWIW, I carry both. Spray and my Glock 20 with Buffalo Bore 220gr hard cast bullets. Spray goes in a holster on my pack belt and Glock goes in a chest holster that attaches to my bino harness. Second, I'll ask a...
