Why? CA hunting licenses over time.

Interesting, but more I think about it the more is makes sense. Deer hunting is the biggest drive for me at least in California hunting and fishing. I wonder how this correlates to sportsman leaving California? In this time frame more people have shifted to living in urban environments and less...

    McCall Idaho Elk Hunt

I have nothing to add to this thread, just wanted to say this a stand-up response that most new people looking for help on here would be lucky to get.

Why? CA hunting licenses over time.

I think it will be small innitially but if tags were reduced long term along with other measuers of preditor control, buck to doe ratios and implementing new hunts, forest management and protecting migration routes there might be hope. I'm not trying to talk budgets other than I highly doubt DFW...

Why? CA hunting licenses over time.

I would gladly give up a year or 3 of hunting to reduce tag numbers and let the species rebound. The problem is that CA DFW depend HEAVILY on deer tag revenue. So the powers that be will never make that decision, unless we want to pay $300 for a deer tag. If I remember correctly there was a...

Why? CA hunting licenses over time.

A lot of good info here that people put together, gets people thinking. All I know that in my neck of the Sierra Nevada Foothills, land is being cut up and developed for single family homes. The migratory paths have been cut off with interstates and subdivisions. The forests above 5000' are...

    Idaho hates NRs.

I agree with you. But the mindset of if you don't want to pay then don't play will lead to a drop off of NR's, which is what all the residents who are complaining and blaming all the hunting problems on NR's want. I don't know but I would guess a very large chunk of the money that Idaho funds...

    Idaho hates NRs.

Please. Like I said I don't mind paying my share or more, and have less opportunity. Seems to me the most whining is coming from guys like you. Please tell me what the right thing is do here...take away tags from other hunters or not let my kid hunt?? I do not want the extra tags, I would rather...

    Idaho hates NRs.

Here is my issue with the cost increase. I would be happy to drop more money and have a tag numbers reduced for the overall benefit of hunting. In the last 11 years I have seen the quality and quantity of deer go down in the unit I hunt. I believe it to be one of the more hunted by NR's. This is...

9th Circuit Ends California Ban on High-Capacity Magazines

That has been their (California Legislator's) goal for a long time. They keep imposing more and more laws that make it harder, and eventually impossible to own guns. In California there is a handgun roster (too long to explain in detail) but if you want to own a handgun, it must be on the list...

    7 Mag Bullet Choice

I started with 140g Barnes TTSX and switched last year to 150g Barnes. Trajectory is almost exactly the same and get a little more energy out of it, about 150 ft-lbs. I was hunting an area where 3-400 yd shot would be necessary. Took a cow with one shot.

Looking for a Idaho legal muzzy

After a quick search, I couldnt find my question. My archery hunt has an option for muzzleloader hunt later on and was thinking about diving into muzzleloaders as a backup. I dont have anyone close to me that runs muzzleloaders, at least recently. I am looking for advice on what a good...

    From Behind Enemy Lines (CA)

Welcome, Im from Nevada City and normally hunt D3-5, but like others said start racking up points for x zones/premium hunts. Most deer are taken on private property in the foothills so if you know of anyone with property big enough to hunt, start buttering them up now!

    Nevada Unit 203

Sassn, You have given me a couple extra places to look at. You are right on about the days you can hunt on the Mason, because it will be in waterfowl season, it is only open to hunt 3 days a week. So I will need another area or two to hunt on off days. I am waiting on a call back from the...

    Northern California

Joined the other day. I am born and raised Nor Cal. I currently only hunt deer here, as I have yet to draw an elk tag and California does not seem to want to make any effort to enhance our big game species, only the predators. I have hunted Idaho for deer and elk for the last 11 years and just...
