I can understand your rational thinking on commenting on 1st choice being all that matters for most NR draws as odds are slim to draw a 2nd and 3rd if you didn't get pulled early enough in the draw. But for Residents that couldn't be ever further from the truth and misguiding...
All the draw odd info is public information. So with some time you can figure odds.
As for NM I wouldn't follow go hunt odds. They show odds of drawing as a 1st choice which can be very misleading. Prob better to look at overall odds to tags available since nm is a random draw. I cant speak for...
I never meant I'd rather have NR draw odds across the board over my resident odds.
That being said theres a few prime hunts that are overlooked and NR odds are way higher that resident odds for those hunts. There are some sleeper opportunities for NR is what I was getting at.

Theres some great NR draw opportunities in NM. Theres a few not many hunts that NR odds make me wish I had as resident.
I do believe that the DIY NR get left behind in NM draws though. Now if you can afford landowner tag prices then you can hunt NM prime hunts every yr.

Units 12,13, 15, 17 is prob best units for what your wanting. Best to hunt 2nd archery or early muzzleloader/rifle to catch them a bit lower elevations. They do drop to rut.
The 1st hunt can be very hot 70-80°. 2nd hunt can also be very hot making some long quite days. There are some areas that hold a decent amount of bulls. We had to spike in about 3 miles to get close to where we located some elk. Dry unit so plan a added trip to pack water in. Also outfitters...
