    Quintessential Western Whitetail?

I always am impressed with the bucks that come out of northwest Montana and the Idaho panhandle. I would think shooting one of those would be an ultimate whitetail hunt.

Extreme hunting pressure in region 7.

Sheesh it’s 40’s and 50’s out west you are going the wrong way and I have seen pictures of the bulls and bucks to prove it.

Some of us are still hunting.

    Griz-Cat

It will be an interesting game. I went to both schools and tend to cheer for the cats when they play eachother for no reason other than the beatings the cats took when I grew up. I always love a loser, hopefully the cats got it out of their system.

    Afraid of the dark??

Agreed I voted yes but I do it all the time. Quartering my deer out this year with coyotes howling at point blank I was laughing to myself thinking I bet we could have a formidable fight right now. Couldn’t imagine had that been wolves.

    Afraid of the dark??

When you add wind for whatever reason that is when I notice it.

    Afraid of the dark??

I put a tree stand above an ehd deer a big bear was eating on. Seemed like a great idea until it got dark and the wind came up. Pretty sure my head lamp looked like a strobe light on the hike out. I will admit to being scared in the dark.

How far do you stay upwind of elk?

If the terrain and temperature is right you can get away with things. I have to think your wind was going above or below.

    Thermals maybe?

How far do you stay upwind of elk?

That I’ve not EVER seen. Animals sometimes put up with a lot but wind is never one of them.

Bowhunters - not a big impact?

That also shows how much of an impact bowhunters can have too. The people in charge don’t get it.

Bowhunters - not a big impact?

I have heard many horror stories even seen pictures of the perfect shot and I don’t understand it. Elk have a giant vital area. I have shoulder bladed a bull that I didn’t recover but I think I’ve shot 10 plus bulls I would have to count and most die in sight. 44 yards has been my longest shot...
