Nice man sounds like a pretty good day out. As far as sage vs dusky I would assume the tail feathers are the best way to tell the difference. I have never seen or hunted sage grouse but I searched "Female sage grouse in flight," followed by the same search for dusky grouse in google images and...
Looks like blue berries or Oregon grape (Can't tell which), kinnikinnick, and maybe some current leaves but really can't be certain on that either. Also sweet CVA Optima, I just shot my first deer this muzzleloader season with one of those. Nice bird!
Well what’s interesting is I have one honey hole, when I don’t find them near the logging roads in pine I always find them in the aspens. I run a 100% success rate on that mountain the last 4 years so I know for a fact they won’t shy away from aspens. In fact, most articles you read about them...
That looks sweet and I’ll definitely throw those states in the bag. I’ll obviously look into it but for the sake of conversation how’s the public land in those states?
So I just wrapped up my first deer hunt and I was successful. My brother decided not get out this year and will be deployed next year but will have six preference points for the 2024 season. A big dream we have had is to paddle into an area on a raft or canoe to hunt mule deer, even if only one...
Also, YOU’RE GETTING INTO DEER. You’re doing a good job but probably just need to tweak a few things here and there. You’re doing better than a lot of others. I know we hunt western mule deer and the name of the game out here is to hunt hard everyday but if you have the time and need to wait for...
I just wrapped up my first mule deer hunt ever. I had a doe tag for muzzleloader season and did it solo. I showed up 4 days early to the area I was gonna hunt, glassed and found quite a few does. Then still hunted the forest around where I saw them. I mean really still hunted all day. 3 steps...
Sounds like you were in good habitat. Sometimes you just don’t find them. I’d spend sometime driving around the area and seeing if you notice anything on the roads. If that’s not possible then hit that spot a couple more times and if you still don’t get into any birds go back to the drawing board.
12 opening day in CO in public land. Changed things up this year and went to a different spot we had been scouting. Surprisingly few people around with a couple guys showing up later in the morning. Coulda shot a lot more if I was any good.
Got a doe muzzleloader tag this year. I am going solo and have done it before especially when going after grouse and my elk hunt last year. I am base camp hunting and still manage to get extremally bored when I am in camp. This will be my longest camp alone, its ten days (Unless I tag out...
