    Online WFA course?

Thanks! I didn't find anything in the timeframe I was looking for. We had a good (safe) hunt. As I was climbing over, under, and through deadfalls and sliding down steep banks into creek bottoms, more than once I thought "If I or he (my dad) breaks or damages something at this point, we're in...

    Maui things to do…

YES! Mama's Fish House. This was going to be my 'insider' suggestion. Guess it's not as secret as I thought. Rent a Jeep if you can - all the big chains have them out there - and put the top down (but know how to put it up quickly on the Hana Hwy as pop up showers are likely).

What do beets taste like to you?

Yep. I'm a dirt and soap guy. But my wife and kids are opposite on both accounts. Go figure.

    New to elk hunting.

^^ This. After our trip in November, I've got pictures with my dad in some of the most gorgeous country you can imagine. For a couple of country boys that grew up on a cotton farm in Alabama to being in the backwoods of the mountains climbing over downfalls and stumbling into mountain meadows...

    New to elk hunting.

What is this 'meat' you speak of? Never heard of it. haha We had so much shtuff in the truck this time that we had decided that if we actually killed something, we were going to rent a small Uhaul trailer from out there and pile the meat in it to haul back - either in inexpensive coolers, or if...

    Be like Evie 😉

When I see that she didn't start bow hunting until she was 42 after me turning 42 a month ago: "So you're telling me there's a chance..."

    2021- Who got skunked?

Big bowl of tag soup for me this year. 8 days in MT and saw what we think was a silhouette of cow or calf at very dusky/dark on the first day - other than that, nada. Had a lot of fun trying, though. Got to see some amazing country and spend 8 days in camp with my dad and uncle (plus 31hr drive...

    Wall tent stove

We did our first ever trip in our Davis 14x16 tent with the larger 'Peak' size stove a few weeks ago. First night there, it got down to 10-15. We had to stoke the fire about every 2 - 2.5 hours. I attribute that to burning soft wood (all that we could find in our area) instead of hardwood. Other...

    Special reqs for elk bow?

Definitely agree on the legalities. I was asking here more for functionality of the bow - if there was some specific spec that was needed to be able to hunt/kill elk. I couldn't think of anything myself, but I'm also a newbie with bows, so wanted to check with the peanut gallery in case there...

    Special reqs for elk bow?

I just KNEW it! That's why so many pickups have those stickers covering the entire back window, right? :D

    Special reqs for elk bow?

Last year, I dug out my dad's old Browning Mag Reflex bow (30+ years old, I'm guessing) and started hunting with it locally for whitetail. I'm thinking that I would like to upgrade to something newer next year and would like to make sure I'm covered for my end-goal -- hunting elk and muleys...

    Timber Hunting For Elk

I got into some of that nasty mangled blowdown stuff for a little bit. All I could think was "If I slip up on a sleeping bear curled up in one of these piles, I'm going to look like America Ninja Warrior skipping across the tops of these logs to get out of there".

    Timber Hunting For Elk

I know this is an old thread, but I'm glad to see it pop up. On our first ever elk hunt a couple of weeks ago, we were very discouraged to find that the area we were in didn't have those magical glassing knobs overlooking hundreds of acres of thin timber to glass for a small herd like we had...

Lessons learned by a first time newbie...

Got back a few days ago from 8 days in MT looking for muley and/or elk with nothing but 'experience' to show for it... We were originally going to try to slide into some of the areas south of Bozeman, but due to lack of heavy snow and me basically chickening out due to bears while we do our...

    CB Radio in hunting rig

Had a CB in the Jeep when we did a road trip from IA to CO 12 years ago and was amazed at how little radio chatter there was. I guess truckers have all gone to cell phones as well - zero chatter all the way out on I80 (and yes, it is tuned correctly). I remember my grandad's daily morning ritual...
