First photo pre pressure wash, second was after a quick blast around skull. No meat left and color is already looking good.

I haven’t done the peroxide part yet can’t seem to find a potbig enough from local store. But the sous vide did well I used oxi, dawn and vinegar combo at 155 for 48 hours. Will post final product when finished.

Reccomended Gear for 1st Elk Hunt in 2020

I just got off the phone with Garmin. Third party power sources are acceptable ( to a certain point ). My Anker puts out too much power which is why I got the warning signal on upper right corner. 3,000mA is the upper limit for any Garmin handheld device. Not recommended and can damage the unit...

Reccomended Gear for 1st Elk Hunt in 2020

I’m also from VA and a buddy and I did our first elk hunt during second rifle this year. We packed in 5 miles with a forecast of 1-3 inches and by day two we had 16”. Day three we packed out which was miserable in snow that was to our knees in spots. Point being the weather is just as...

    Canned elk?

We can a lot of venison as well as fresh caught tuna here in Virginia. Just curious if anyone cans any elk meat, looks like it would be similar to venison but wondering if anyone has.

What is the longest you've aged a big game animal?

we ate a piece of backstrap last Thursday at camp from a bull I killed Tuesday. (The animal was completely deboned and bagged within three hours time from kill) it was extremely tough and chewy which I didn’t expect. Hoping that a weeks time will change that but not optimistic. Will try more...

    Euro techniques

We just got home to Virginia from our second rifle in colorado hunt. I am planning to do my own euro mount for my elk. I don’t see spending $250-300 after I had to remove brain and tissue before going to taxidermist due to fed regulations. I was going to do the typical boil and pick as we do for...

    270win ammo

I tried multiple different brands over the course of a few days from 100-400 yards and surprisingly the 145 grain brownings grouped the best. I have a friend that is going to make me a few diff hand loads to try but those grouped best for me. And they scored my first elk as well. Thanks for all...

    270win ammo

Unfortunately that was a box laying around. Doesn’t look like pmc even makes 270 ammo any longer and I couldn’t find the 150grain elsewhere online

    270win ammo

I was boiling inside today scratching my head at what it could of been. I brought my trigger pull down just below 3lbs about a month ago and thought maybe my two bolts had come loose so I checked with fat wrench and that wasn’t it. The only other thing I did was reset my zero on my cds so then I...

    270win ammo

You were 110% spot on with this. I spoke with Mike at nosler and he basically said the exact same thing. The LR Accubonds cannot stabilize hence their inconsistency. He offered to exchange the 5 boxes I have for anything they sell which is top notch customer service. I picked up 2 boxes of the...
