Congrats on the tag. I have hunted 32 a lot and have been lucky to kill 6-8 coues bucks in there over the years. I stopped hunting it probably 8 years ago because the lions and access got really bad. As others said there is still plenty of public land but the easy to get to places have seen a...
I have a great big cooler and I like to "age" my game in there for 7-10 days if possible. I bag the ice in contractor bags and put the meat above it very carefully to keep everything dry. I'll drain the water and add ice as necessary. This process usually takes place in my garage where i can...
The closure to 27 hits me hard as my family owns a ranch in the unit and we spend a LOT of time archery deer hunting. It will really suck to not be able to chase deer out of the front door anymore BUT something did need to be done and although torn, I do agree with it. we have seen a MASSIVE...
yeah... the draw has not happened. I'd like to say it will happen Friday but at this point, who knows. i don't know what the point of extending the deadline was if there is still a week or more between that date and the actual draw taking place.
2nd for the meopta. Meostar S2 is an awesome spotting scope. I've had non HD zeiss and swaro and my meopta is a lot better than either of them. It is not quite as good as the new HD's from zeiss and swaro and but you can get them for about half the price. the cabelas instinct is a rebranded...
I would agree with this wholeheartedly. I know several people that have drawn multiple AZ antelope tags in a short period and others wait 30 years. The sad thing is, AZ's antelope are NOTHING like they were 10 years ago. you would be hard pressed to find an 80"er in a lot of the units anymore.
with 75bp's for pronghorn between my dad, brother and I someone is BOUND to draw a tag. You'd think that in that many applications someone would have drawn by now. fingers crossed
there is a lot of difference in the different herds of elk in AZ in my opinion. I grew up in the units where Merriam's elk were most prevalent and they seem to be a little different than the elk in other parts of the state but it is likely just different genetics. Elk in the eastern part of the...
I must be doin something wrong if everyone can shoot factory rifles with cheap ammo 1/4"-1/2" "all day". These PRS guys and competitive shooters should all sell their $8000 rigs and buy Ruger Americans or Savages it sounds like. Surprisingly, my most accurate rifle is a .338 Lapua. It is capable...
Here is a ballistic chart comparison. There is an absolute negligible difference in velocity, energy and trajectory in these cartridges. That's why a lot of us can't wrap our heads around the CM. It does not do anything better than other cartridges that have been around for 50+ years won't do...
I own a 17 fireball and it is a pretty sweet round. It does seem like anymore, 17 hornet ammo and components (brass) are easier to come by than 17 rem or 17 fireball so i'd probably go that route if I were you. While we are on the topic of 17's, does anyone here reload for them? I reload for the...
Ben, my bench is about exactly what you are describing. I ran 2x4's and i think it is a 1" piece of plywood on top for a total thickness of about 2.5". it is also 8'x2' and anchored to the studs in my wall. I've always preferred my benches to be the height of a bar top with a runner to rest my...
A little more jailtime would have been nice. Serial poachers obviously don't care about their hunting privileges so losing them for a few days or lifetime doesn't make any difference to them. Glad they hit him some penalties that will last a lifetime.
